They're nazis too. We have tourbus parking all over the city and if you park there overnight and are in the spot even a few minutes past 8:00, they'll tow your car which means a $75 ticket and at least $120 towing fee! Bast*rds. Plus now we have street cleaning and it its impossible to keep up with the schedule with what all else is on my mind. $25 a pop for that.

It is crazy. And employers here don't care, they rarely subsidize or provide parking.

Yes, Sail Loft is still here. I've been to both.

I don't drive, I still haven't taken the driving licence, even if I should. It would make my everyday life simpler and would work to end my usual lack of punctuality. But I don't feel any need to own a car and I love the time spent reading or listening music on subway trains and buses.

Now that I think about it, I haven't eaten at the Sail Loft. Its a big meeting/pickup spot for some reason! I've just been there for drinks. My roommate and I were in line there once and we had already been somewhere else. These girls got in front of us and were in the process of being let in. So I said, "Why are those hos being let in before us?" The people in line cracked up. I'm lucky I did not get my face bashed in.

Naughty girl. What I remember most is that I had a meal there once which consisted of Lobster, Scallops and assorted fish for about $25. Whole meal!! ANd it tasted like it was right off the boat, which it probably was.

Both of my friends say they dont feel tied down at all, that the bus and light rail get them around just fine.
It's okay. I mean, I save tons of money on parking, towing, insurance, and that. It's heinously hard to park in the city and in berkeley and oakland.
However, it's more inconvenient when I go grocery shopping, or really when I want to be able to buy anything large at all. Also, I miss the fact that I can't drive to Stinson beach, or sausalito, or back up in the hills of tilden park. But I'm assuming you will keep your car, just not use it much, right? Just kind of for emergencies and trips and stuff?
Also, I have to carry a backpack all the time to put my stuff in, but that's not really a big deal.
So, if you will save money on parking - you should go without the car. Don't get rid of the car, though.

Street cleaning? Is it really that dirty?? We don't do that here. And as far as my employer is concerned.... we own half the southside of Indianapolis!!! hahaha! Our 25 year employees have reserved spaces, and I have a pretty close spot every day.

Union Oyster House has the greatest onion soup known to mankind. I used to go there practically every day for lunch. I don't think I've been there in months.

I pretty much have to drive. Public transportation sucks big-time here. It's bad. I've never even been on the bus or Metrorail (our ghetto version of a subway that goes nowhere.)

Now, if I lives in a place where I could use public transportation, I would do it, at least to get to & from work.

No, it's not thick. I've got one, but it's nowhere nearly as bad as the one some people have.

I loathe driving. But it's a necessary evil. One of the things about Austin (well, two things actually) that make driving particularly irritating is the fact that there are no street signs anywhere...I used to get sooo f*cking lost when I first moved here. Plus, every major thoroughfare has 2 or 3 different names. And I *cannot* abide driving in downtown Austin. If I lived central or south, I'd have to get rid of my car. It makes me a nervous f*cking wreck. Luckily, I live up north. But if you live up here, you have to have a car, because public transportation is kind of sucky...and if you live too far up north, it's nonexistent.

I'm sure I wouldn't last 15 minutes driving in Boston.
