Someone just randomly told me that. Gee thanks! I am though. I was up late last nite. Not that late though. But I had an emotionally draining night. Anyway, don't tell someone they look tired!

Well, at least they didn't say, "so when is the baby due?"

That is a horrible thing to say to a woman.

I think she meant the guy sticking his foot in his mouth telling me I look tired. However, his heart was in the right place, he just sounded concerned. It wouldn't be as weird if I actually knew this guy. He's one of our catering guys who I have never actually talked to. What an icebreaker, eh?

Suze - you should have used some snappy retort.
But don't feel bad. About 6 days ago I noticed that my dark circles have increased somewhat dramatically. And not in a sexy way. More like in a malnourished looking way.

I have no doubt you look fine.
Also, I hate when people say that.

Coworkers have said this to me, when I am not wearing eye makeup. It so rarely sounds like the person has concern - more like Diss said, a way of saying you look like ****.

The only time that comment would be alright with me is if it is followed by an offer of:
a day off
some tea
a pillow

Hey - there's a retort:
"You look tired today."
"I am tired. Could you get me a pillow?"

The other unwelcome comment I have always hated is:
"Smile" it is almost always uttered as a command, and from a stranger. I
don't know any unmedicated people who walk around with smiles on their faces all day

p.s. I thought your thread was going to be about all of us late-night ledgies.

I tend to always be tired, and always have dark circles/bags under my eyes. (I have sleep apnea, but don't use my machine like I should, because I have more trouble sleeping with the mask on than without.) You'd be amazed how many people make similar comments to me. Sometimes, they even precede it with "You look awful." Some people just have no common sense.
