As far as I know there were big pressures but I'm not sure she was directly responsible of them, or the studio that was anxious to create an international star. But Garson Kanin (director of Funny Girl theatre version and one of the best Hepburn's and Tracy's friends, till he wrote the infamous book about the two actors' love story that made Hepburn furious), played a strategical role to make Kate Hepburn accept the split Oscar, even if she didn't go, but that was mainly for the too recent Spencer Tracy's death. At least that's how I know the thing.

The gauze shots are enough to make one think that they downed a few bottles of heavy liquor that they never actually did, and the heavy-handed treatment of the subject matter coupled with her insatiable quest for mass adoration make one feel as if they're being conned, emotionally and aesthetically.

Never mind that Nick Nolte was anally raped as a child, no, she doesn't care about any of that; it is not essential to the story being told. The only thing that she wants to get across, and does she ever hammer into your head, is that she's a complicated character. Yes, Babs is complicated. She has enormous wealth, a fabulous career, and Elliot Gould's spawn. Of course, we already know what a complicated character she is, anyway. We're simply confused about which character while we're watching it: Barbra Streisand or the one she's playing in the movie?

Pauline Kael did NOT retire. She lives in Boston. She is masquerading as a young interior designer who calls himself Josh.

this is one of her best, most underappreciated roles

Barbra is amazing. Funny Girl and Prince of Tides and The Way We Were...she is a one-of-a-kind and her talent is endless. No one can sway me otherwise.

I think she's an incredibly gifted singer, but as an actress? Blech. I don't care for her much. I was half expecting her to grow feathers and squawk in "Nuts."

I don't like to see things with her in them because I don't like to look at her. I've never heard a song by her that I like, either. Nice review, by the way, Diss.

Awwww! I am kinda sorry to hear that. I would recommend seeing "What's Up Doc?" with Ryan O'Neal and Babs. It's utterly hysterical and she's at her most beautiful in it. I do say, she's NOT ageing well, and yet, she got her HUNK. She got Brolin! YUM! And my 2 favorite albums of hers are "Songbird" and "Superman." Maybe you'll give these a try sometime?!

Yeah, no. about the albums. Maybe the movie. I thought she looked okay cute with the curly hair in that one movie. Yes, Brolin is a hunk. Hmm...I'd probably be way more inclined to watch her in a movie then listen to the music. And you can forget me watching a musical right now.

That was the re-re-make of "A Star Is Born" and her hair was styled by her then lover, Jon Peters. BTW...most fans just HATE that "poodle perm"! You can check out some "hair tests" here if you're so reclined....

I know, everyone hates the fro. But now that I think about it, I think I'm thinking of different hair, in the movie with Robert Redford. That movie was pretty ok. Well, I only saw a little of it, and don't remember it that well, but it seemed okay...

I'd rather listen to the sounds of my parents having sex than listen to Barbara Streisand.
