Anything sounds better than the late 80s/early 90s, my dear! Those years were torturous. The period from '94-'98 is one of my favorites in terms of her voice. I just downloaded the East Rutherford show from '97 and it really makes me miss those days, and they were only eight years ago. She was on ****ing fire.

You just proved MY point. That Eric CAN work with BabyFace, DUANE Allman, Phil Collins...let's also name BB King, Steve Winwood, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughn, Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin, Luciano Pavarotti, Bob Dylan.

He works with EVERYBODY, any genre, anywhere, anytime. It's all Eric.

If you think he's "boring", I suggest either you listen harder or open your mind.

I know, isn't it shocking? At least when Midler did it, she took a unique approach to it by doing songs from only one artist and completely revamping them.

I'd have any of those any day over technically perfect but passionless singers.
Good point. Daltrey has certainly never lacked for passion in his singing.

I also adore Neil Young's voice, although I have to be in the mood for it, otherwise it grates on me. Whenever I put on 'Harvest Moon' it makes me cry overy time; it's absolutely beautiful even though his voice totally sucks LOL.

I agree that the OOTC tour brought us amazing vocals, and he may hit some foul notes or strain, but that's Lindsey's passion coming through. I don't get upset at hearing bad notes here and there from my faves. As long as they aren't lip-synching, I'm fine.

Harvest Moon is a gorgeous album. You're totally right about his voice. He can't sing, but sometimes his voice sounds so sweet other times it can be really annoying! I do love Neil though.

Question Opinions...and tastes, and wrong names

I have seemed to anger or at least upset some of my buddies here with my Clapton observations-
Sorry it wasn't my intention, I was just stating MY opinion, that I perfer the older Clapton tunes to thye newer
NOTE: The last ballad he has recorded is NOT about his son 's fall- that was years ago and it was a beautiful song. I am not talking about the unplugged Clapton years I am talking about the last maybe, 2 years...
If my opinion is different than yours...I think that is OK-Right?
Now to correct myself, I was incorrect to mention Jimmy Page in place of Robert Plante-----Just got confused
One of the best shows I ever saw was with Jimmy Page and the band was THE FIRM-
Sorry again for my error

Of course, I'm not mad, just having a conversation.
ON EDIT: Are you talking about Change The World?

Whose lead singer was Paul Rodgers of Bad Company. Still a great voice.

Sure. Just havin' a Clapton discussion.

Are you including the album with BB King? A collaboration that was LONG overdue.

Are you including the One More Car, One More Rider concert DVD? (with the killer version of "River Of Tears"...didn't care for the Pilgrim album studio version all that much when it was released, but that live version just TUGGED at the heartstrings and made me listen to the studio version in a whole new way) Just a great concert all-around.

Are you including the Sessions for Robert j & the Me & Mr. Johnson albums? Jeez, Clapton doing a whole album of Robert Johnson tunes? What more can ya ask for?

All that said, since its release, the live Derek & Dominoes album gets more play from me than any other Clapton album. So go figure.

I USED to share your opinion about the "sloppy drunk Clapton" years, but in listening to that stuff now, he just sounds "sloppy drunk" and his guitar tone is really thin & weak.

Clapton still has it, his voice and style still have a place for me. He proved it on the recent Cream reunion gigs. He was the only one of the three that sounded sharp and sweet.

Roger Daltrey sang very well at Live 8, in fact he was a revelation to me because I expected the massacre he performed at the 9/11 gig. All I'm saying is he doesn't have a great range for a singer. Then again, in a rock band like The Who it doesn't really matter due to the type of music they play anyway.

As for Lindsey, I'm sorry but I don't know how you can say Lindsey is singing better now than before. His vocal range is now so limited. Sure on softer, subtle songs he's fine but on the rockers his voice is shot to pieces... I can only think it's the blind loyalty to Mac and it's members that is clouding your judgement. Lindsey's voice live is not as it was. He was a little bit weaker on The Dance tour but it was still very good. Somewhere between '97 and '02 his vocal chords got wrecked.. Lindsey's best live voice was on the Concert For The Environment in 1986. Unfortunately for the public he was at his prime when he had finished live work with Fleetwood Mac.

Lindsey's voice up until the Tusk tour was quite high but it was perfect for harmonising. His voice got more aggressive during the Mirage Tour and reached it's peak between 1986 and 1993.

Everybody has their favorite Fleetwood Mac era but I fail to see how his voice has improved by losing it's range? As a performer he's made up for it by his spastic motions and antics on stage during the last tour.

He's still a hell of a guitarist and with some vocal coaching and less smoking could probably get into shape for the possible 2007 tour.

Or, Paul Rodgers of Free, or Paul Rodgers of Queen, depending on your point of reference.

And, let's not forget Paul's guest lead vocal on the Peter Green Splinter Group version of "Sweet Home Chicago", too!

I'm crazy, then. Nothing that I didn't know.

Um, aging rockers. Hm.

Joe Walsh still sounds great. I saw him two weeks ago with the James Gang, and he sounds exactly the same. I love his voice for some reason. He can still rock out, totally. Chrissie Hynde and Debbie Harry still sound fabulous, so do Bono and Tom Petty. I still think that Lindsey sounds good. Same with Stevie - I love her voice now. It's so sultry. <3

Siouxsie Sioux still sounds good, but she lost a little bit of range. I remeber seeing the Banshees' Seven Year Itch video, and she sounded a little off, but she can still do it. Patti Smith sounds great; she sounds exactly the same as she did back in the 70s.

I think that Springsteen's voice nowadays is a little.. meh. He's kinda croaky, moreso than he used to be. And I'm not a Paul McCartney fan (I'm a John & George fan), but he still sounds good. And Roger Daltrey will always be awesome in my eyes.

Chrissie and Debbie are in a new punk documentary that premieres on Saturday night on the Independent Film Channel. It looks pretty good from the clips and commercials I saw. They premiered a doc on the Sex Pistols the other night, but it royally sucked, so hopefully this is better.
