make sure to be with someone who can cook!!! I'm lucky to have the advantage of being within someone who is a great cook (I too can cook, Which shocks most people), So I have added some weight in the 13+ years we have been together (Plus Deb has stolen all of my usual smartass remarks to use on people )

Um, yeah, that's when you should say "YOU don't tell me what dress I need...*I* tell me what dress I need. Thank you."

Awww...I have a couple of oragami books and I tried it. I can make a not-so-great crane, but some of the others are difficult. LOL That was a terrific idea!

Nice day but in the scheme of things, a waste of $.

And it doesn't seem to be for the bride and groom. It seems to be for the bride's mother. Am I right?
All that stress!!!! And if it ends in divorce in 5 years, that only makes the huge wedding look more ridiculous.

Let's just pop down to the JP and get it over with.

I totally enjoyed being married! And the wedding was done at the bargin price of $1500! That's including the dress and the chalet in the mountains for 4 days!

I've been widowed/single for 18 months today. The holidays sucked bad last year. It's quite the adjustment. I made my family completely change the holiday routine so I wouldn't feel so out of place. Last year, I was literally waiting for Jason to walk in at any moment, and it was too much to handle. Spending Christmas morning alone with Sara was depressing. I had to buy myself gifts to put under the tree so Sara wouldn't question why Santa didn't bring Mommy anything. I dunno.... one of these days I will find a good guy who's not an asshole or a bum. Right now, I guess, I'm just trying to be me and be a great mom.

Oh sure! Needless to say I didn't get my dress at any of those stores. It just amazed me how hard they try to make you believe you need the big dress. You really have to be adamant about not buyng in...

My husband is actually quite artistic and is quite good at origami. He made fancier ones and we made them our wedding favors! I remember he did a bear and a deer and a rabbit and stuff like that. But after all those cranes for the trees he said he would be happy if he never did another crane again!

The only reason I am sad about being single during the holidays is because I can't use a significant other as an excuse to get out of spending them with my dysfunctional family. And the even sadder part is, I'm totally serious and that really is sad. Can someone point me in the direction of a good "Let It Go" therapist?! (now that was funny.)

Not me, girl! I'm with you! well, I usually overcome by thinking of the presents, and how everyone wants to see ME. Also, my parents live in the country, so that is nice...I use the time for detox from smoking... Also I find that my mom kisses my a** now that she can't terrorize me and i never see her...mwahahahahahahahahaha!!!! (hey, you have to find holiday joy where you can!) Also, my parents have a cute dog...

Well, that's one reason why I don't like being single during the holidays.
I'm certainly not looking forward to visiting my senile grandmother at the nursing home and feeling like crawling under the nearest bedpan when my crazy aunt starts using racial epithets (in a rather loud voice) to refer to the orderlies.

Yeah, I'd much rather spend Xmas with a boyfriend.

Laura, I hear that. This family stuff is so difficult. My whole family is crazy, I don't know where the hell I came from, sesly. I am not bragging, it's just that most of my family seems to lack self-awareness which I never did and I don't know why.

I was given a beautiful crane as a gift last year which came from Peace Craft and benefits a good cause, the company contributes to organizations that help end childrens' suffering.

I'm getting married at the river, it's gonna be BBQ, and everyone in swimsuits or whatever!
I got married in a park by the duck pond with flowers in my hair. Then the perverted old judge tried to feel me up covertly during picture taking time.
Anyway I have no desire to be married ever again. I like my life just as it is.

There's a great book of daily affirmations by Melody Beattie called The Language Of Letting Go. I highly recommend it.

I'm beginning to think there are more dysfunctional families than normal ones...

I love my immediate family (mom, sister etc...) but the rest? yikes...mucho f**ked upness... I'm going back home for Christmas and am hoping that I don't have to spend a big holiday with the whole extended family (luckily my immediate family feels the same way )...but yeah - I've had the "how the hell did I end up even remotely normal" thought for years...
