I wonder also why her recorded vocals are not as good as her live vocals. For me hearing Crystal from Practical magic was a bit of a turn off. Her vocals were not that great. I haven't cared for her recorded vocals much after that.

She's really carved herself a niche of guesting on really unmemorable duets and I struggle to even call them duets. It's usually a verse and some harmony and thats it.

The clip is so brief that a judgment is barely possible, but I like those few seconds. I’m the opposite of sleepless child in that I prefer the studio vocals to the live vocals lately. The studio seems to give Stevie more dynamic space, and she doesn’t have to compete with a band onstage to be heard. Stevie and Chris Isaak have a nice retro gel. When she works with him on an old song, she puts aside her narcissistic “Stevie Nicks” thing (or the song puts it aside for her). Thoughts, JB?

What did you think of her duet with Henley “It Don’t Matter to the Sun”?

I think she has a really strong voice. The tone quality really suffers from the years of all those "whatevers" we talked about in a different thread. I like her recorded voice better than live. I really like her on the Neil Finn track, "Find Your Way Back". As far as live goes, she still has the tone quality issues and then you have to add her intonation issues. Having said all that, if I could sing this functionally in my 70's, and my fans were buying it, I'd hire some writers (like she always does). Then I'd put out an album and do FINAL tour.

Also I don't belong to any particular "clique" (this term feels a little "high school"). I think it was someone who had some personal issues with you and used the occasion to get back at you. |

Cotton Candy Land is posted on youtube now. I'll respect The Ledgie rules and not post a link to a current song.

It's not bad. I'm not real crazy for Stevie's vocals. They are so harsh. But the song is pretty cool. And I love Chris Issak.

It's also on Spotify. Although I'm still not in love with her vocal choices, I kinda "get it" better now that I've heard the whole song. It's spooky.
Fun having a big day of FM releases, between this and "Songbird"!

I didn’t like it but boy it’s grown on me.
I’d like to see/hear it within the film, I think that would have more bearing on how the song sounds. She sounds sort of scary… I just listened to it again….I like her voice, not the nasal drone. Last edited by sue; 06-24-2022 at 11:26 AM.. Reason: Adding something |

I listened to the song twice and LOVE it! I’m a huge Chris Isaac fan and love the vibe of this track. I like it a lot better than the Elton John duet.

I listened to it a boatload of times today and like it a lot. There is just one quick part where they are singing together and it sounds jumbled, which makes me believe they did it in one take each at their own perspective studios(or in their own living rooms) and then e mailed it into the record company without perfecting it.
