The notion of being buried, in the year 2011, is hilariously primitive. I absolutely understand the notion of wanting to have a memorial for loved ones to visit and appreciate, but, tell me...
In 100 years is anyone going to even remember who you are? Does it really matter what happens to your physical body after you die? Is it so important and sacrosanct? What makes *you* so special that your rotting carcass deserves a plot of land on an overcrowded planet for the rest of eternity? |

Never thought too much about it, but I guess you can count me in with the hell-bound heathens who want to be cremated.

Cremation. Burial is waste of space that could be put to better purposes.

I think that's precisely who it's for. Those of us who are still alive. Honestly, I've only seen my Dad's grave twice in the almost 5 years it's been since he died. I don't know if I'll ever go again either.

I completely understand that. But, would it be any less significant if your loved ones' remains weren't at the memorial site? Of course that question is both personal and rhetorical, but... to me, after death, vivid, shared memories and thoughts are far more significant and dynamic than a piece of land that was (save for family crypts) completely irrelevant to the person before their death.

Quote:
The jacket looks smashing on you, by the way- I like it better than LB's, though his is perfectly good. You wear it like you had it designed and tailored for yourself, and a quality in you is captured in that photo that says 'Damn right'. I think you look classy with a nonchalance beyond your years, as I've assumed that you are a "kid" from what I've read from you. (From my stilted perspective, a kid would be anyone 23 or younger. I wonder how many of my assumptions here were wrong.) You'd be surprised, maybe, to know how many people who are much older would not seem as 'comfortable in their own skin' as you do in the shot. Regardless, nice photo. Who's the woman in the chair? It's 1:30 am, and I don't want to turn the lights on, and can't quite make out the detail of her image.I can barely see the keys as I type. The eyes, you know- after the mind, they're the first thing to go P.S. I am very sorry about your loss of your father. Last edited by Nikolaj; 01-28-2011 at 01:36 AM.. |
