There's a bit of background about it in the book that comes with Petty's boxed set, but essentially, he offered it to her first and she "balked" at the prospect of recording it. It's then said that that the two of them didn't exactly get along very well afterwards, so he offered it to Petty to spite her.

They didn't do it very often, but when they did, it was great. They've done Shakedown live (the rap song from Curse of Blondie) a few times, too; I believe it's still up for download on AOL Sessions.
