Default Louisville Metro : South by Southwest day 4 recap 3/20

I thought I posted this new article here. But I couldn't find it, So here it is, the Goastt and Chimera music SXSW review.

Louisville Metro

South by Southwest 2011: day four recap
Partying with Rachael Ray, Sean Lennon and Taylor Momsen...but not all at once (that would be cool, though)

Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger/If By Yes @ Elysium (Chimera Music)

It’s not easy being the child of a musical legend—let alone two musical legends, which might explain why Sean Lennon continues to keep a fairly low profile as a recording artist. Although he’s released solo material, he seems most comfortable in collaborative settings, which perhaps provide a better vehicle for sidestepping any unfair comparisons with his father.

I really don't like that summation of Sean at all. It's so belittling and generic. He isn't hiding because of who his parents are, he's trying new things. He is doing a collaborative project with his band, and he's producing tons of different projects on the side as well. If he doesn't have a solo album out right now it isn't because he can't, it's because he doesn't want to or doesn't have time. People just love to RIDE THOSE STEREOTYPES.

Oh, and Yoko's fame and success has never been a hindrance for Sean. He has been her greatest fan, because he knows her brand of unique is difficult for so many people to take, even though a lot of it is soooooo great. It's John's success, his status and luminous legend, that is harder for Sean AND Julian, if anything. And I think they've handled it well.

Shoot, it isn't easy being the son of a musical icon- try being the son of a musical icon who was a Beatle. Dang, give him more credit please.

Default Another Benefit for Japan on March 29, with Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band

I agree with you Nico about your feelings about that article.I don't think Sean is hiding either, because of who his parents are. Also he need to put our any solo albums.Because he in his own band now with Charlotte Kemp, " The Goastt ".He putting albums and performing and touring with Charlotte. He has own record label now,Chimera music, that he building with Charlotte. This is Sean's own words about his feeling about this.
“Ultimately people seem to think that being John Lennon’s son is a huge weight around my neck but they don’t consider for a second how inspiring that might be and how proud I am to have this name.” Sean Lennon

I do have one update. There is another Fundraiser for Japan on Tuesday March 29th with Yoko Ono Plastic Ono band and Cibo Matto and other guests performing. It does not say that Sean Lennon will be there. But its still some days off, so he could still appear with his Mom onstage to.

Scroll down to last paragraph for the information about this March 29, 2011 Benefit.

‘John Lennon offered me lyrics and drawings for a fiver’ - Crosby artist John Haslam

A CROSBY artist has relived the moment he turned down the chance to buy lyrics and artwork from a young John Lennon.
John Haslam was working in Liverpool city centre as an artist in 1960 when the chance meeting occurred at the Jacaranda pub on Slater Street.
It happened before Lennon became famous with The Beatles and the young musician was just 20 at the time.
Mr Haslam remembers the moment as “surreal” but he turned down the offer because he did not have enough cash at the time to pay for them.
MHe told the Crosby Herald: “It was a surreal moment because I thought that he was a charismatic person.
“There was an electricity in the air when it happened.
“He showed me bits of songs. The scribbles were drawn onto an imperial sheet of paper and they were done in pencil.
“I said to him ‘I can’t afford it at the moment’. I was only on £15 a week and he wanted £5 from me.
“I did say, ‘they are great and they have got value and they are the best thing you have shown from your portfolio.’
“He (Lennon) said it was a shame I didn’t want them because he could do with the money.”
Mr Haslam added: “I said to him he should stick at the music and forget the art game because his music was great. I remember him from the Quarrymen.”
Asked what Lennon was like as a person Mr Haslam, now 76, recalled: “He was very charismatic. He had something about him, but I don’t know what it was.
“There was something in the air at that moment. He had something, but I don’t know what.
“I knew it was strange. It was an amazing day and it was very mysterious. I remember it as clear as it can be.
“I thought he had something special. He was very sensible and quiet. I thought he was very intelligent."

(A bit redundant, but definitely sharing the John love!!!)

Hello John fans! (*ahem* Nico & msLinds, lol!) I'm not sure if this was posted earlier in this Mega-John thread or not (well my goodness between those 2 gals it's hard to keep up!)
Anywho....Steinway Pianos is producing a gorgeous, limited edition John Lennon piano that is reason ENUF I should get out there & get rich QUIK--it's $90,000!!!! Here it is:

Go check out the whole thing at http://www.steinway.com/imagine

Isn't it freaking GORGEOUS?? The interesting thing is despite the economy, Steinway says that they will sell all FIFTY of these pianos! That works out to a cool 4.5 million dollars, heck Bill Gates could get all fifty and not even break a sweat! Let's hope he doesn't buy them all....I want to buy one before I die for a dear friend

Default Thanks 3rd World Man

Thanks 3rd World Man for sharing that information and link. That John Lennon Imagine limited edition piano is beautiful. I wanted to ask you Third World Man ,where I can find the price information about this limited edition piano. Not that I have any interest in buying it myself. But someone else on another message board, where I posted about it. Has asked about how much the price was.How much a of fortune does that cost.I didn' know where to tell them to look on the web site for Steinway about the price of it.You allways post accurate information. But I like to post where people can look up the information for themselves to.I think there is a lot of Beatles and John Lennon fans that post and read this Ledge board.Because this thread is still getting a lot of views. Its not just from Nico and me.With Stevie on tour right now with Rod Steward and the excitement about her new music CD coming out soon.We also have Lindsey's new solo music CD that is coming out hopefully soon to.I am also really looking forward to to getting these new CD's for myself to.But even with all this going on with this board. This thread is still having people checking it everytime something new is posted here.Everyone have a safe, positive and great weekend and take care

Hi msLinds, thanks for the props, and I was teasing that it was just you & Nico reading this thread The article that I read stated the price was $90,000. They have a link you can click on, which leads you to believe they will send you info. I thought if they had a brochure, it would be a great John item to have! I secretly added a friend to the list so she would get a brochure too! But alas, they just have a local dealer respond via email so you can arrange to come in and order one. **sigh** So, I guess the only thing you can do if you're really interested is to go to the closest Steinway dealer. Thanks again, take care and keep the John love coming!

Default John Lennon song featured on "Songs For Japan"

source: http://www.nme.com/news/john-lennon/55720

A remastered version of Imagine is featured on this 38-track compilation album to benefit those struck by the disastrous earthquake/tsunami in Japan.

John as well as Adele, Foo Fighters and Eminem are among the acts featured on the final tracklisting of the new 'Songs For Japan' charity album.

Labels Sony , EMI, Universal and Warner have joined forces to release the 38-song album. Profits will go to the Japanese Red Cross to benefit the victims of the recent Japanese earthquakes and tsunami.

The album is available now to download from Itunes.apple.com and will come out physically on April 4.

Meanwhile, Beady Eye, Primal Scream, Graham Coxon, Paul Weller and more are set to for a benefit gig for victims of the Japan disasters in London next month.

Here is the tracklist:

John Lennon - 'Imagine' (remastered)
U2 - 'Walk On'
Bob Dylan - 'Shelter From the Storm'
Red Hot Chili Peppers - 'Around the World' (live)
Lady Gaga - 'Born This Way' (Starsmith remix)
Beyonce - 'Irreplaceable'
Bruno Mars - 'Talking to the Moon' (acoustic piano version)
Katy Perry - 'Firework'
Rihanna - 'Only Girl (In the World)'
Justin Timberlake - 'Like I Love You'
Madonna - 'Miles Away' (live)
David Guetta - 'When Love Takes Over' (featuring Kelly Rowland)
Eminem - 'Love The Way You Lie' (featuring Rihanna)
Bruce Springsteen - 'Human Touch'
Josh Groban - 'Awake' (live)
Keith Urban - 'Better Life'
The Black Eyed Peas - 'One Tribe'
P!nk - 'Sober'
Cee Lo Green - 'It's OK'
Lady Antebellum - 'I Run to You'
Bon Jovi - 'What Do You Got?'
Foo Fighters - 'My Hero'
R.E.M. - 'Man On the Moon' (live)
Nicki Minaj - 'Save Me'
Sade - 'By Your Side'
Michael Buble - 'Hold On (radio mix)'
Justin Bieber - 'Pray' (acoustic)
Adele - 'Make You Feel My Love'
Enya - 'If I Could Be Where You Are'
Elton John - 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me'
John Mayer - 'Waiting On the World to Change'
Queen - 'Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)'
Kings of Leon - 'Use Somebody'
Sting, Steven Mercurio & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - 'Fragile' (live in Berlin)
Leona Lewis - 'Better In Time'
Ne-Yo - 'One In a Million'
Shakira - 'Whenever Wherever'
Norah Jones - 'Sunrise'

What do you all think about this tracklist? Any favorites? Aside from Imagine, which is a masterpiece through and through, I love a ton of these songs. I'm wondering HOW MUCH will actually go to assisting these victims, because I'm all about getting this...even if I have all these songs.

You're welcome msLinds, and I hope someone on this board gets one...or gets to play one...supposedly only 50 will be made so maybe all the John fans could chip in and buy one, put it on display, and anyone who donated could play it, whatya think??
Now Nico, that list is HUGE for that charity CD, wow, people love Japan, and we should be doing everything we can to help. I can claim to be a fan of only two of those artists, John of course and Bruce ***sigh*** I'm sure someone with much better taste **ahem** will be able to list many more But seriously, a remastered or unreleased track from John is worth the price of the CD, so I say buy it!

Well Nico, I WILL be buying that CD, though I might 'donate' it to 'charity' afterwards and I must confess I don't own the John box (some fan I know) though I have heard from a close friend that it's FAB, no? But I will be building up my John collection, for sure!
