Moreover, we are talking about hundreds if not thousands of square miles of largely unpassable terrain here. Finally, Biloxi has tons of supplies and they are disbursing them as fast as they can, which apparently is not fast enough.

I guess my beef is you all are making it sound like, at least to me, nothing is happening and that is not the case. Many people have gotten relief and this massive operation is up and running.
I know that many people have received aid and have been rescued. However, my major beef is the underpreparation before the storm hit.

But, they are doing a ton now. Again, they have evacuated thousands off of roofs and out of attics. They essentially check each house of thousands of houses. That is huge. They are also removing the dead from the destruction in Mississippi, which is a good thing as it will hopefully prevent disease. I want them to go faster as well, but I am unsure how to achieve that goal when there are no roads

But where and to whom. MS is not a densely populated area - a square mile may have 50 people.

They are - however, I think it is the people with the racks of suits that people are griping about.

No, my post was in response to people talking about female cops looting shoes and clothing. Sorry, but seeing one clip on television of cops gathering up shoes and clothing does make us informed about what they were actually doing and we shouldn't feign offense over it. I highly doubt that they were stealing all of that stuff for themselves. Like I said before, it's heinous for people to be stealing televisions and DVD players, but I refuse to condemn people who are stealing essentials that are needed in order to survive.

I understand that but that isn't what they had in their carts. I was telling you what they had.

The news said when the people get to the Astro they have to register, they get checked for guns and drugs, they get a shower, fresh sheets, a matress and a hot meal.

Do they get clothes too? If not that is gross.

I agree

I guess I have just lived through this scenario one too many times.

Well, they are being shot at - they cannot do anyone any good if they are dead

I know, I understand that. There are just so many more people trapped. They really need to bring in more troops. Anybody who shoots at someone trying to rescue them should be shot on the spot so they can get out the people who are taking this seriously.

It is just a bad scene. I mean can you imagine being there. I cannot. Imagine your heartache when you see the rescue boat go by each time and seemingly get everyone but you and there you are in the filth and squalor you have been sitting in the 90+ degree heat with no food or water on your roof. That would drive me to do things I would not ordinarily do - though I would not shoot people because it would tend to make them not want to rescue me

I also wonder if the typhoid, cholera, and other infection risk is too great as well.

And aircraft are certainly capable of flying over large areas in a very short amount of time.

Ha. FEMA warned four years ago that a hurricane hitting NO was one of three most likely disasters in America. Bush then cut flood control funds in NO by almost fifty percent.
