Stevie's little heart was definitely in the right place, but I really don't know that this would make for a great song.
Although, if she ever publishes a book of her song lyrics and poems, like Paul McCartney's 'Blackbird Singing,' it should definitely be included.

And I agree with chiliD... by the time the album is released, it will be nearly two years since September 11th. The song is so closely linked to the emotions and situations in the days immediately following those events, that I think it would lose its effect.

Default Hmm....

The lyrics are more than lame in my opinion.

"We are being escorted out of Washington. By an F-16" not exactly the level of poetic writing I expect from Ms. Nicks

I am sure the sentiment is very much from Stevie's heart but I would be very impressed if Lindsey could fashion something musically inspiring from something this shallow.

It surprises me really.

I don't want to sound like I'm just bashing Stevie's work but it does seem lately that it is Lindsey that is producing the strong work with lyrics that have real substance while Stevie's songs seem to get more shallow, something of a reversal of previous years.

I think personally it is too weak for the album, but then again I may be proved wrong.

the lyrics aren't anything to write home about but i think Stevie was just getting a lot out for herself just by writing something. i agree about the F-16 line.

Stevie always used to say "you can't write a good song if you're happy because you're just too busy being happy all the time....you have to be somewhere between tragedy and happiness...great art from great tragedy". I know Stevie was applying this to her own ethics about writing. Well, i don't think she's experiencing any great tragedy now that i know of so it would seem fitting that her lyrics are suffering as a result. I really hate to say that her whole (sober & straight) lifestyle has contributed to this as well. On her defense though, she has written some great stuff in the past so it sort of makes up for it. Oh well, what can you do? The woman's paid her dues.

I was very tempted to point out the low quality of these "lyrics," but I didn't want to be accused of bashing. I'm glad others see that indeed these aren't that good.

Got, how much more obvious/boring can you get? It's like country music, she is just stating the obvious. Anyway, I hope this isn't on the new album.

They're a little wooden. But the fans don't know for sure that these words from her journal would have been dumped verbatim into the song. Stevie usually refashions the lines from her journal into the lyrics for a song. There's no telling which parts of this journal entry she would have kept & which parts she would have altered or rewritten or even omitted. Read some of her journal pages on the Stevie Nicks Underground site to see what I mean, or look at the "Alice" page in the 1989 tourbook. It's possible that she & Fleetwood Mac could have gotten some savvy lyrics for a song out of this journal page.

Dude, I agree word for word with your entire post! I was reading through other people's posts and I was about to hit reply and type almost literally what you'd written, then I read yours and it seems you saved me the time and effort!

No no no you've got to be kidding - who could think for a second that this "song" will be released?

How could you consider it anything more than a stream of consciousness, cathartic exercise of Stevie's, something that, as Stephen King would say, was written "with the door closed", not open for public scrutiny as some sort of song in progress.

I guess it's easy enough to do, but it's giving Stevie's rationality very little credit indeed to believe she might want this turned into a song, in the sense of any other song she's released.

I concur...100%

When I saw this post the other day...I cringed!...
This had better NOT be on the new CD....
Its stream of conciousness - self indulgence -to the extreme.

Besides the fact wouldn't it be overkill to have two 911 inspired songs on disc...Its pretty much accepted that "Ilume" is going to make the final cut-and that was also inspired by 911, but even that from the lyrics we know has a much more universal appeal...Instead of BIG TIME ROCK STAR-and her traveling all star band-Get back on the Plane..! ugh. Hate to say it Stevie, but it does nothing for me.

Stevie's heart is totally in the right place. As much as those lyrics don't seem very typical of Stevie, it's clear she had an emotional experience and reflected in her journal. That's the kind of thing we love about her. But, IMO, her journal is where those lyrics should stay . I felt the same way about Operation Desert Angel.
Get Back On The Plane seems like it would make an emotional song that I would probably love to hear once, but I think it should be confined to her notes, website and perhaps a demo in cyberspace (just for the curious) , Not for commercial release on a Mac album.

By the way, LOL!!
