I almost had a heart attack when I heard them say that Nikki was singing Edge of Seventeen. It was a good try, but to me it sounded like she was just going through the motions. There was no emotion to that song at all! I give her credit for trying to sing that song.. it is a hard song to do justice to because it is so identified with Stevie. Paula Abdul said some really nice comments about Stevie.. I thought that was cool! I think Nikki did much better on the second song.

Default You can listen to it here...

Nikki singing EO17

Same link Pip posted earlier - you can also hear Black Velvet, and everything else she's done.

Yeah, she really didn't do it justice - and it really isn't fair for the judges to say anyone does a "karaoke" version of anything, since they ARE singing to karaoke tracks. I swear that's what Nikki was singing along with, it's sounds identical to the karaoke cd I have.

Nikki is a lot less polished than the others, and it shows. She's very inconsistent, and is often flat, but with some proper vocal training, I think she'll do just fine down the road, even if she loses the competition. I read yesterday on VH1.com that Tamyra already has a deal with Simon's company, and I'm sure most everyone from the top 10 will get something...

That is sort of the mental debate I am having....while I really think that Kelly is the most talented and therefore should win the competition....I almost don't want her to win, because I feel like it might even be harder for the person labeled the AMERICAN IDOL to launch a really successful and respectable career....I guess it has a little bit of a cheese factor attached to it that wouldn't be there if she got out now and got signed by a record label before the end of the contest. I wonder....

Cool American Idol Freak here...

Okay, I watched it, of course, and I thought it was a decent...KARAOKE version. I mean, Kelly and Justin both sing songs and sing them with some kind of emotion and passion, Nikki just....sings. Yeah, when she sang the ooh part, I was like, she's gonna growl right? Nope. Just..."ooh". That was IT! LOL I have to say, YEAH!! to Nikki for choosing a Stevie song, but I agree that Stand Back may have been a better choice of song for her. Black Velvet was her best performance, IMO...but, still not good enough to be AMERICAN IDOL. Sorry.
