Good question. I'd have different answers if it's referred to 1977... or 1979... or 2003.
I bought some Deluxe editions thru iTunes. They labeled the Tango album as rock genre. Mirage as pop. Tusk and BuckVie as rock. So I guess they don't know either.

I've had that same doubt for years about Eagles, David Bowie, Kiss and Queen. I read in their Wikipedia pages that many bands are labeled (among other genres) as "pop rock", like Bon Jovi, Air Supply, Fleetwood Mac, Styx, Annie Lennox, and The Carpenters.

It's a fairly large gray area. There used to be a radio station named "Z Rock&Pop". They included most of the bands and singers I like, so it didn't complicate things. Although I haven't listened to any radio (or even Spotify) for over 15 years.

And, at the risk of being crucified, I don't see pop as a musical genre. I see it more as a look, an attitude, a commercial purpose, etc. In fact, the closest definition of pop I've found is... "an eclectic genre, borrowing elements from other styles such as urban, dance, rock, latin, R&B, and folk music". I kind of agree but then that's is not a music genre, it's more like a Frankenstein creature. So it's not a genre. When I think of pop stars, I don't identify them by the style of their songs, but by how they promoted them, how popular are they. My personal opinion.
Interesting and thoughtful take.
Considering how Stevie is regarded as the biggest female touring rockstar past the age of 55, it's interesting that she wasn't inducted in her first year of eligibility into the Hall - speaking of women: Heart, Donna Summer, Patti Smith, Darlene Love, ABBA, Joan Baez, Joan Jett, Linda Ronstadt, and Blondie were all inducted before Stevie was inducted as a solo artist.

the board and leadership of the RRHOF especially through the early years were twats like Jann Wenner and the bros from Rolling Stone and elsewhere....and they HATED Stevie thru the 70s. They didn't "get" her songs, her lyrics, her voice, her vibrato, her stage presence, etc. and CRUCIFIED her, her voice, her songs, her image, etc in reviews. If it wasn't Robert Plant or similar, it was garbage to them. Then it was punk and if you weren't that you were ****e. People forget that Stevie did indeed face a real uphill battle within the business of people (men) who dismissed her, didn't give her credit for the successes she had (for ex, everyone under the sun wanting to get her on their records --John Stewart, Kenny Loggins (who blew off his cowriter Melissa Manchester who expected to sing Whenever I Call You Friend with him), Walter Egan, etc). People wanted songs from her specifically (Waylon Jennings, Louise Goffin etc). But the "establishment" which was TOTALLY a boys' club shat all over her. So her delayed induction until she was older, had a huge body of solo and FM work and was about the only woman still standing and selling out arenas that they capitulated.

The ironic part of the S&L relationship is that from very early on Lindsey was her biggest champion of her talents. (until the break up when of course he started to weaponize it).

She can't stay still. She can't stay more than a couple nights in the same hotel on a tour let alone months in one place. She always whined about wanting to escape and live quietly in a castle on a cliff overlooking the ocean, but could never actually ever do that. She HATED the Covid time when she was forced to stay home. She's talked about feeling like it stole precious years from her (join the club sister). So it seems like NOT getting to tour during those years exacerbated her need for travel. And let's face it, the attention and focus and adoration she gets touring is something she's never going to get sitting at home with....who?? Her dogs?? Karen??
