I think they don't care to ask SN who she might have heard of that would interest us. instead they want more fodder for tabloids and blogs so ask her about all the "hot" artists that are getting millions of hits and face time. Super tragic.
Speaking of tragic:

idk so much about Neko...trying...give me time, but Concrete Blonde is a must. Come with me to the dark side. lmao. Johnette's voice is amazing!!

Idk, I feel like Stevie's always listened to (and liked) the hot 100 popular music type stuff in addition to whatever else she gets into. So I'm not surprised about her liking Katy, Taylor, Rihanna, etc.

Ok thanks.I'm surprised that she has any time to enjoy listening to the radio in her busy schedule.

Johnette is the lead singer and creative force behind Concrete Blonde. One of my favorite groups and singers of all time. Listen to Bloodletting album. GREAT HOLLYWOOD BAND! They are sorta of Classic Gothic Rock, but not electronica goth.

You cannot possibly believe that she is sincere. She knows how to name drop and network through the music business.

Think she also mentioned Lana Del Ray as someone she liked when asked this time, IIRC. Also, she mentioned The Civil Wars quite recently when asked if she hears her influence in music today (apparently reminding her of something - 'there's Stevie and Lindsey 30 years ago'). Not sure how much she actually likes them but I'd venture she does. I think maybe in 2011 she only chose one modern artist in a feature entitled 'soundtrack of my life' and that was actually John Mayer (his record Battle Studies in particular). That combined with her apparent liking of Dave Matthews Band and the love she gives to Phillip Phillips (sp?) indicates she still has a fondness for that kind of thing as well as the more top 40 poppy female singers. It's not like one has to only like one genre or dislike manufactured pop in order to appreciate more artistic, guitar-driven or folksy or rock etc music, after all.

But yeah, she certainly was very keen on ET by Katy Perry when that came out and said she actually cried on hearing The One Who Got Away so that's all nothing new, lol.

Why does Katy Perry sound so juvenile in her new song "Roar"?

Stevie has said in the past that she really liked Katy Perry. She was even asked (by Katy Perry) and did did the voiceover for the video's trailer clip to Katy Perry's video "the one that got away"

http://

So, (IMO) I don't see it as kissing her ass, but just answering questions that are asked of her.

I love Donna Summer and Joni Mitchel . Tori Amos is ok.

I figure Stevie would be more interested in artists more her age then these kids like Katy,Miley and so forth.

Does she like Justin Bieber .
Johnette is the singer of Concrete Blonde. Neko Case started out as a country singer, but her music isn't really country. It's often described as country-noir. I bet you'd like her. Check out I Wish I Was The Moon or Blacklisted or Maybe Sparrow on YouTube. She's great!

and your point is? She said nice things about Katy Perry after Katy became the hottest ticket in the country and that is why she got to do the voiceover. Anybody who has really paid attention to all the name drops, and the Kiss Ass Lines (If I were on a desert island I would watch Glee, blah) knows what Stevie is up too. She is extremely smart. She is trying to align herself with young hollywood because guess what-that's how to remain relevant. The Phillip Phillips, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Glee... name drops are all calculating and they work. She has worked behind the scenes to get her music heard.

I cringe when I hear her kissing ass, but it got it her on Glee. Maybe she said something to the right people about liking American Horror Story. Lana Del Rey and Civil Wars are incredibly hot right now and Stevie pays attention.

If she really wanted to name-drop, there are far more credible names she could have dropped than Katy Perry. I believe she is talking about Katy Perry simply because that's who she wants to talk about. I actually don't see what's so unbelievable about that. Stevie has historically had bad taste in most things. Men, movies, books, recreational drugs, etc. This isn't really a massive shock to me. I'll leave her to enjoy what she enjoys. She's old enough to have earned at least that. As long as this doesn't end in an actual collaboration with Katy Perry, I'm a-ok with it.

MFF, it's difficult for me to imagine anyone disliking Neko Case. Have you given her a try yet? This song always seems to do the trick for newcomers to her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0vk5SGmw3w
