[From an interview with Doug Morris]
By Tim Ingham, June 8, 2015 Music Business World Wide http://www.musicbusinessworldwide.co...nd-being-nice/ What Doug Morris thinks of Jimmy Iovine, Steve Jobs… and being nice Doug On… Jimmy Iovine “I wanted someone to produce Stevie [Nicks’ solo album Bella Donna in 1981], and Jimmy was emerging as a great young producer. He had produced Tom Petty and worked with John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen – he was on an arc to greatness. “I called him and said, ‘I want you to produce this Stevie Nicks solo album’ and he said, ‘I’d rather produce The Rolling Stones.’ “I said, ‘I understand you would, so would I! But you’re gonna produce Stevie Nicks.’ “He went out there and produced her solo record. “I was very good friends with Stevie, so I called her up after the first two weeks at her house to find out how she was doing, and Jimmy answered the phone. ‘Hey Jimmy, can I talk to Stevie?’ ‘She’s sleeping.’ I said: ‘Ah. What are you doing there?’ “That’s when I realised that when you work with Jimmy, you’ve got to be ready that he’s always gonna get a little something extra.” “Jimmy’s an extrordinary person… He’s really a product of his dad. If Jimmy would get up in the morning and make an omelette, his dad would come in and say, ‘That’s the best omelette I’ve ever seen. No-one can make an omelette like Jimmy.’ “If Jimmy would say to his dad, ‘Can you believe I’m going to work with John Lennon tomorrow?’ You know what his dad said? ‘Lucky John!” “When you’ve got someone like that behind you, a mentor like that, it gives you the confidence to go out and destroy the world. That’s what Jimmy has – enormous talent, intellect and a great belief in his own ability.” “Jimmy and I have stayed friends for 37 years. I speak to him at least twice a day. He is the most remarkable person.” |

This is off topic, but I now see that Stevie and Jimmy's relationship really was spontaneous, I had always thought Jimmy purposely got with Stevie to put her on "lockdown" which would enable him to efficiently get through the production of BD. So nice to read that maybe he and she really did fall for eachother.

Stevie has a predictable habit of getting romantically involved with people she collaborates with on her music... Lindsey, Jimmy, Rupert, Tom, Paul Fishkin, and so on. She mixes work and pleasure a LOT. I think it's interesting that Doug Morris though frames it like Jimmy somehow worked the situation to his own advantage and got involved with Stevie ... "Jimmy always gets something extra" Does that mean he also has a history of getting it on with all the chicks he's worked with ..?

We'll that makes practical sense. Music is her whole world. She meets and hooks up with people who live in that world - people she can relate with. It's not as if she has ever been as a big time socialite. She seems to stay close with her extended musical family. But it does seem a little bit incestuous of sorts.
