I have read the replies and agree with most, I have to agree with yours the best.

For me, it was obviously her raspy vocals, her mysticisim, her poetry that hit home. Her peacoat cover of RAL and feathered hair/flowing skirts in TTM/ICW/SB...who IS this woman?
Captivating talent and kindred spirit.

Gosh I sound like a drag queen now....which is actually furthest from the truth, lol. Stevie is MY Bob Dylan and Lennon wrapped up in one amazing woman.

I agree it's probably partly due to her diva strong woman persona. I don't know too much of why people become gay icons. She's pretty glitzy too. I'm bi....does that count I really don't know though.

I'm gay, but I don't think it has anything to do with why I love Stevie's music.

I've always liked her sound. I remember hearing hits from Rumours on the radio when I was a kid and liking the songs. Then in the 80's I was heavy into Duran Duran and Wham! I still liked FM and Stevie's solo stuff too, but not as much.

Fast-forward to 1997. I saw her perform Silver Springs during The Dance and really could relate to the lyrics. I also loved the passion with which she performed it. I remember thinking, wow - she's amazing! Then I saw her in concert in 1998 and that was fun, but I REALLY got hooked when I saw her in 1999 at House of Blues in L.A. (the Millinium Shows). We were so close because the venue was so tiny and Stevie was literally singing to us, face to face. I also remember her doing this little sprinkly motion with her hands over the audience before the show. Maybe that was it - some kinda magic dust that cast the spell for me and I'm sure a few others.

Regardless, I fell hook, line and sinker after that.

I agree. I heard her voice on Dreams when I was about 12 years old and checked out the name on the 45. I thought to myself, Stevie Nicks, I wonder if that's her singing. I said something to my Mom about it and she pulled The White Album and Rumours out of the stereo rack. That's when I first saw her and then I started listening to the records.
I think I was too young then to realize how HOT she was/is but that came along in time. lol.
I agree with whoever said something about gay people being loyal because once someone like Stevie reaches you, and connects with you on such a deep level, you feel a permanent bond with them. Especially if you had to be in the closet like back then.
I always liked her dichotomy of being so femme on the outside but as tough as steel on the inside.
Plus after I saw FM live in 1982, I was putty in her hands.
