It's the same sh*t every show (I realized this & my mild shipping came to an end after seeing 5 shows on the SYW tour.)
I agree--the only "hot" feelings might be in the form of a flash.

I think they love each other deeply and might love each other above everyone else (with the exception of Lindsey loving his children the most, hopefully), but as for passion, come ON! How much passion and heat is there going to be with someone you've known for 45 years?

And not all the viagra in the world could save them.

I think that Stevie knows how to use that relationship to sale records. They are more strangers then people think. However, that drama was very marketable.

To romanticize it all a bit (keep the excitement alive for GoldDustWoman22?) shall we look at some lyrics? I'm open to the idea that they're still drawn to certain aspects of each other--they have, after all, shared a lot of life. I just think any feelings have gone unfulfilled for a decade or so. Anyway...

I have no way of knowing, of course, but I get a very Stevie vibe from "Stars"--

"I wake up in the middle of the night
With you in my heart
With you in my heart
I can't touch you anymore
It causes you harm
"

And then there's Everybody Loves You (which we know is about Lindsey)--

"We cause each other such pain
Everywhere we go now
At home or on stage"

"Don’t come here again
Unless fear of fire leaves you cold"

If "Stars" is about Stevie, they sound to me like two people who know each other and themselves well enough to realize that a relationship couldn't work, given their current situations.
I really don't think they could be in a good place right now if they were in any way involved. Love and hate often went hand-in-hand for them (just ask Ken C.), and know they've found some peace. They may still write and think about each other occasionally, but the on stage flirtation is just for show and I don't think it crosses into their off-stage lives.
Why are they only flirting for show now? They are an established supergroup. Why bother now? Why not before when they had to battle constant rumors of the group's demise after these two were already broken up, going solo, yet were still banging? I don't get it.

If Lindsey and Stevie wrote those lyrics in the last ten years I could agree with your speculation. I seriously doubt any are more recent than the early 1990s. But if their words do refer to recent events and reflect their current mindset, can somebody explain this:

And then there's Everybody Loves You (which we know is about Lindsey)--
"We cause each other such pain
Everywhere we go now
At home or on stage
"

Except the part about loving his children more than his woman, I can agree with all of this! All the viagra in the world...

Honestly, I think they're relationship is completely professional and all the lovey dovey stuff they do on stage is totally playing to the crowd. I'd be surprised if they socialize much at all when they're not working together.

I have similar thoughts about Stevie's relationship with Christine. I think they were probably close from about 1975-1978, but didn't have much of anything to do with one another after that outside of FM. I'm sure they're genuinely friendly when they see each other, but I'm betting the only times Stevie has seen Christine since 1998 were the two times CM came to see the band in England.
ACTUALLY...........they both pretty much have admitted that they truly broke up when he left the band in '87, so it's only been 24 yrs lmao!

Eh, I fully expect they had occasional hook-ups through the early 80's and there's little doubt in my mind that love (or something like it) was in the air in '97. Now, though? I tend to doubt it.
They are, by all accounts, in a good place right now, but I don't think there's been anything nefarious in a long while.

Side note: few phrases squick me out the way "making love" does. I'm all for sticking to "banging."
LMAOOOOOO it does just sound better doesn't it!?

Yes "Everybody Loves You" was definitely on my mind when I was thinking about recent songs that have been written about their relationship . All of what has been said makes total sense. And I can agree with the fact that there is love there. It seems to be foolish to say that there is absolutely NOTHING there. But as for the passion thing...could there be a different sort of passion then "I wanna jump your bones right now" kinda thing (weird expression I know ) But maybe they do get into the moment when they are performing. Like I am sure that there are parts (maybe even a lot of them) are rehearsed and done night after night. But regardless, they do have a musical chemistry that can't be denied! So I'm sure there are moments onstage when they feel that and there is a magical moment that the audience feels too. I don't know, I guess it's because I've never seen them live before and a part is hoping that when I do, there's going to be some spontaneity in the performance.

fumi - I think I'm just now starting to embrace my Shipperness. It really is a wonderful thing lol

ITA, but I do really think that Stevie & Lindsey were ever so close to getting back @ the time of The Dance. Stevie's song My Heart is about this I'm sure. I swear everytime I listen to it, it reminds me of this time. Now though, that ship has sailed. It is all a stage act. She has said so herself in various interviews.

The thing that bothers me most about the whole "it's just an act" theory is it is based on the thought of "oh, they do that every night" so there can't be any emotion behind whatever they do onstage. What? Don't you hug or kiss your loved ones in an offhanded way? Doesn't it become routine? Does that mean you've "lost that loving feeling"? No. And, I agree with Mr. Stevie - there was no reason for SnL to play up a love affair or lost love affair in 1997 forward. In fact, it seems like they would want to downplay it. Partners in crime, indeed. Know what they're doing, for sure. No emotion or love or even a kind of passion - no way.

Ha, but that's an old lyric. Many of Stevie's SYW songs had to do with The Dance. So, I wouldn't say that line supports a current relationship.

^I don't think it necessarily proves anything either, but I do find it intersting she lifted that from Not Make Believe and changed "at home or at play" to "at home or onstage".

What I think happens on stage is that there are spontaneous moments and they work so well between Lindsey and Stevie and are received so well by the audience that they then repeat the moments that were once spontaneous. That's why their interaction develops a lot from the first show (and for the Unleashed premier they weren't connecting much in that first show at all) to the last.

That's also why I like to see the "same" show over and over again, because I enjoy watching the evolution. For the SYW tour, they started doing this thing where they go back to back at the end of Don't Stop. They weren't doing this at the beginning of the tour when I saw them in Illinois. When I saw it in Reno, I was really surprised. There must have been one night when he unexpectedly buried his face in her hair and that felt right to both of them, so they tried to recreate that moment in future shows.

Just because it becomes staged doesn't mean it didn't have origins in real feeling.

Of course, there were some things that started fake (the staring in Say Goodbye) which I think took on more true emotion as the tour wound down to its end.

I don't know what to say about the stupid Tusk fight. Phony in the beginning (and possibly dangerous) and phony until the bitter end.
