Default My Heart

I think My Heart would be a great single...it's catchy and people can relate to it. :-)

I say....no more singles.
Singles promoted to AC radio take a LONG time to climb the AC charts. Example is Bruno Mars, who has the current #1 AC single with "Just The Way You Are", a song released almost 9 months ago and peaked on the Hot 100 Chart way back in OCTOBER!

I would imagine Secret Love will do the same, probably reaching top 10 by early summer.

Luckily, it's not your choice. Another single or two would help raise awareness of the album much like "Planets of the Universe" and "Sorcerer" did for Trouble In Shangri-La. In the case of that album, it would have been a mistake to stop with "Every Day", just like now it will be a mistake to only release "Secret Love".

You make the incorrect assumption that an album has a couple weeks shelf life and that's it. Adele's album is an example that albums can and do build momentum weeks (and sometimes months) after release.

Well, this wouldn't be a good idea.

I'm not criticizing your (possible) love of "My Heart". But you do realize that "My Heart" is a bonus track, so it's not on most of the copies of In Your Dreams that people have, so ergo, not a good choice for single.

Secret Love was actually a great choice for a single but unless Glee covers it, she isn’t going to have a hit single.
On the contrary several songs are very radio-friendly: "For What It's Worth", "New Orleans", "Everybody Loves You" and "Italian Summer" all have hooks, structures and song lengths conducive to radio play. This doesn't mean that they WILL be played, due to length of career/age/the market, but in and of themselves any of those songs could be on the radio.

I would say "Moonlight" does as well, on the sheer quality of the song.

Looks like it may be time for single #2. "Secret Love" drops from 20 to 23 on the AC chart this week.

Considering that it debuted at #1 with 350,000 sold and has stayed in the top 3 since it's debut, Adele's album is not the best example, but the single "Rolling in the Deep" was released last year and it finally hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week.

Even if radio programmers are resistant to "In Your Dreams" or "Moonlight" (which follow "Secret Love" in iTunes sales), Dave Stewart and his production company could deliver videos for those songs to youtube, Vevo, etc. The trailer for Twilight: Breaking Dawn should debut this summer and if "Moonlight" is used for that, it would help.

True. Interesting that both songs are higher on iTunes sales than other tracks on the album....and they're consistently selected on here too. Looks more and more like those are obvious single choices.

the sad thing about Secret Love is that she actually promoted the song and couldn't help it.

I'm guessing she'll hit the late-night shows in the next round, but who knows.

I voted for "Moonlight". Stevie needs to be weird/witchy woman - she can't bring the voice acrobatics (or the blandness) that we hear in today's popular ballads, & she doesn't have the energy onstage to sell a straight-up rock song (or the public would have eaten up her FFG performances). Nobody wants to hear a craggy-voiced woman sing boring adult contemporary stuff that anybody else can do anyway. Stevie needs to bring the Stevie-ness - the stuff that makes her distinct. And that's "Moonlight", IMO. That's one song that nobody else can do. Something like "Italian Summer" - much as I like it - could be done by others.

Even the AC chart is now dominated by Katy Perry, Gaga, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Pink, Kesha, etc. and with a few exceptions, it's virtually identical to Top 40. Most of the artists featured are 30 and under. All of Stevie's peer-group have met with similar resistance in regard to Top 40 radio play. It's been a long, long time since Elton John, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Pat Benatar, Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Deborah Harry, Heart, etc. have seen a top 40 hit.

I think it shows the quality of this album that nearly every track got some votes for being the 2nd single (plus the write-in or two that "Cheaper Than Free" got, and the 1 write-in for "My Heart").

"In Your Dreams" and "Moonlight" are the obvious choices to most of us, with "For What It's Worth" being a strong contender.

Someone write Stevie and WB and suggest "In Your Dreams" for single #2, "Moonlight" for single #3, and "For What It's Worth" for single #4/or single to country radio.

True, but can Stevie SING Moonlight live? Can she pull off the first 2 minutes? I have faith she can, but does she?

Surely she can. Take for instance that interview clip from a couple weeks back where she sings the chorus of For What It's Worth - I wonder why she doesnt sing live in that voice. She's performing Secret Love, and sounds like she's trying to force the words out instead of letting them flow out of her the way she seems to do so natuarlly when she sings off the cuff.

I would think she can do Moonlight, but only if she lets that natural vocal take over instead of the forced vocal she uses for live performances these days.

I voted for In Your Dreams as 2nd single, but upon more reflection I agree with your assessment about Moonlight. Stevie went over the top & in your face with the album cover, it's the image she is best known for and I think she needs to stay in that lane with the next single. Moonlight while esoteric, is also relatable with the whole beauty loving the beast narrative - the forbidden love that can never be. And her breathy vocals on this song are not straining, and sung very delicately which I think would work well for TV performances and on stage. She's not "craggy-voiced" on this song at all.

I also think FWIW has some potential as a single (though it'll never happen), esp. on Triple A radio, it's old-fashioned yet hip sounding, with yet another good delicate vocal delivery and a simple hummable melody and poignant story. But other than these 2 or 3 songs I would pull strongly for You May Be The One, which is just classic, and has the potential to reach new listeners. And we know that they shot a video for it on the crew sheets that were leaked 2 months ago. So who knows. I do not think they should release Annabel Lee that song is too esoteric and eccentric for casual listeners imo.
