I don't think it's the same at all.
Grateful Dead fans are more about a culture, almost a way of life. Nicks fans not so much.

There's so much more going on at a Dead show than a just a band performing and adulating fans ogling at the slightest nuances of their beloved performer. At a Dead show, you have the party going on in the parking lot (and lot's of them), areas in the arena where people are not in the arena, but in areas to dance and trip in their own world. The Dead is a true jam band.

Nicks is no different than say, Neil Diamond. Another performer who has been around for more years than Nicks and still packs a stadium with fans wanting to see Diamond. There's not much else going on.

while this is true, i can honestly say Stevie Nicks is a way of life. Especially in the way people dress like her and literally LIVE through her songs...

But definetly, for the Stevie fans that exist, they are the best and most loyal!
I was fortunate enough to experience a Grateful Dead show back in 1994. I could also understand how one would need an " aquired " taste for them as well. Someone might not be able to appreciate their " looks, or even their never ending jams at their concerts either ". But I can comment that I totally enjoyed the experience, and I think they had/have an incredible following of loyal fans, big time. Mellow and just there to enjoy the music and well maybe a few other things.

Although you tend not to see a lot of people dressed up as Neil at his shows. Also, to my knowledge there is no "Night of a Thousand Neils" but I could be mistaken .

That's cool. I saw The Dead 3 times (Fri, Sat, Sun) in 1995? right before Jerry died. Definitely something I'm glad I experienced but not something I'd ever want to experience again. They definitely have their own culture though. Most of us would prefer sitting up close than spending the day on the lawn.
