Plastic bottles that are filled with water will take over a thousand years to biodegrade. There's nothing wrong with filtered tap water.

Maybe in a thousand years they can build glass houses with them.

I LOVE VOSS! Scratch both Figi and Aquafina-- I used to drink Voss daily but once I moved, I stopped because I can't find it anywhere.

Pardon me for not being a superficial, simpleminded, & shortsighted consumer.

Choosing not to buy bottled water for home/work consumption is about the simplest thing anyone can do to help the environment (not to mention its so much cheaper). Bottled water is only truly "needed" about 20% of the time. Its called buying a water filter and using your refrigerator.

I did think that myself but I tried to bite my tongue. I guess not everyone cares about the planet though...

Apparently Australian consumption alone costs the planet over 300,ooo barrels of oil per year to package, transport and refrigerate (and we only have 21 million people).

I care about the planet, as do a lot of people. However we all care in different ways. I have been a recycler long before the entire universe decided we should go green. People are not gonna stop buying water if it tastes like crap from their tap.
I lived in Phoenix for 16 years and even the filtered water was crap. You were forced to buy it there but it usually came in a recycled container. The city called Mesa, which is a neighbor of Phoenix even recycles their plastic bags, whereas most cities won't.
Please don't think that no one cares about the future of the planet. I'm sure I could find ways that you and the other poster are helping to contribute to the demise of this planet if I knew more about your lifestyle. For example: are you a smoker of thc or nicotine?

Nope (never even tried), plus I'm a vegetarian (I won't even go into how good that is for the planet), recycle, buy green electricity, compost and lots more.

There will always be people who buy water because the water quality is poor, but like someone else said, a water filter will get rid of a lot of those problems. Drinking water out of a plastic bottle is a lifestyle choice for most people. Sadly all of those lifestyle choices add up to have a substantial impact on the planet. If your water quality is so poor as to affect your health and well-being then yes you probably need to drink it out of a bottle. If you don't like the taste then buy a water filter...

One thing I've learnt though, especially as a vegetarian, is that you can only take responsiblity for yourself. Hopefully enough people will do that to make a difference to the world.

Anyway, thats my 2c worth

The waste that plastic bottles create is really evident in other countries, as well. The U.S. does a moderately decent job at recycling, but when I traveled to southern Mexico to see the Mayan Pyramids, there were plastic bottles littered all throughout the roadside ditches, villages, everywhere. It was horrible. But, there again, the water there is not necessarily safe to drink, so what do we do?

--I just use a brita pitcher and fill up my nalgene bottle at home. Saves a little waste, and saves money.

i used to have a brita & have been thinking of getting another one~ i drink fiji as i said, but the hubby likes aquafina & my son likes aquapod w/ flouride~ i think having a brita pitcher or the faucet thing they have would be alot less hassle than finding everyone's brand of water~

i do try to reuse the plastic bottles as much as i can before discarding of them, our trash handlers recycle, so i feel good about that~

the only reason i started buying bottled water here in nebraska is because of all the times they have told us they have released our raw sewage into the water, but that it has been treated & is safe to drink, i am sorry but the thought of that just skeeves me out to no end~

i drink fiji, becuase i love the taste & as for it not being handled by human hands as they say until you put your lips on it, i have no idea, it just tastes good~ & to be honest i feel very zsa zsa drinking it~

I have a stainless steel water bottle, and I drink filtered water from my refrig. If I purchase water in a bottle, I always buy Evian or Fiji. I can't stand other bottle waters. I swear I can taste the plastic in the water, especially in Aquafina. I always say I can taste the different between Evian or Fiji and the other bottled waters because of the plastic taste. My friends have promised to treat me to a blindfolded taste test....lol. I'm still waiting, friends.

I'll drink ANY bottled water. It all tastes the same to me. Mostly in my house we have Poland Springs.
