I love this song and most of Nick Cave's music. It reminded me of another song that gets me every time.
Come on up to the house - Tom Waits. Here's a clip someone made of it. I especially love the lyrics "come down off the cross we can use the wood" and "the world is not my home I'm just passin' through"

Yeah! Come on, come on, come on, come on
Now touch me, baby Can't you see that I am not afraid? What was that promise that you made? Why won't you tell me what she said? What was that promise that you made? Now, I'm gonna love you Till the heavens stop the rain I'm gonna love you Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I Come on, come on, come on, come on Now touch me, baby Can't you see that I am not afraid? What was that promise that you made? Why won't you tell me what she said? What was that promise that you made? I'm gonna love you Till the heavens stop the rain I'm gonna love you Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I I'm gonna love you Till the heavens stop the rain I'm gonna love you Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I Stronger than dirt

I can listen to Cave forever and not run across anything I don't like (unless it's his cover of Leonard Cohen's "Tower of Song," because that was just WRONG).

I just watched it on youtube. I agree with you about the connection. I've always loved that song too but I never knew who sang it or it's title. Now thanks to you, I do!

I like that one too. But not as much as the five o'clock hour. Which of the two is your favorite?

WHY was a song that followed me all my Europe backpacker trip, in may 1992 when I was 25. I traveled alone, I enjoyed it, but being alone abroad one month is hard. At cities where I stayed in a room with TV (not several) or watching at the lobby, at the end of the day, MTV Europe that month played WHY lot of times, and it became my favorite.

Sorry for bringing them up again, but the Connells, '74-'75:
Got no reason for coming to me and the rain running down. There's no reason. And the same voice coming to me like it's all slowin down. And believe me - I was the one who let you know I was your sorry-ever-after. '74-'75. It's not easy, nothing to say 'cause it's already said. It's never easy. When I look on in your eyes then I find that I'll do fine. When I look on in your eyes then I'll do better. I was the one who let you know I was your sorry-ever-after. '74-'75. Giving me more and I'll defy 'Cause you're really only after '74-'75. Got no reason for coming to me and the rain running down. There's no reason. When I look on in your eyes then I find that I'll do fine. When I look on in your eyes then I'll do better. I was the one who let you know I was your sorry-ever-after. '74-'75. Giving me more and I'll defy 'Cause you're really only after '74-'75. I was the one who let you know I was your sorry-ever-after. '74-'75. Giving me more and I'll defy 'Cause you're really only after '74-'75. |
