How do you propose America is going to pay the huge debt left by the Bush Admin., even ignoring the mtg. debt that only adds to that. Do you honestly think the economy can grow that much if we cut taxes across the board, which, by the way, will never happen and it did not happen with the Bush tax cuts. Yes, W cut taxes, but states were left holding the bag and had to come up with the money the feds were no longer giving them.

In any event and back to the ad. It made McCain look desparate to these eyes. I mean he couln't come up with a substantive way to attack the large success of Obama's Rainbow Tour? So, he resorts to equating Obama to two spoiled righ white girls with legal troubles and flat out lies in the ad. I mean come on

Certainly we can. The best way to do it is to make it easier to invest and generate profits that are taxed at the current rates. Have you heard of the money multiplier effect? It is an economic term for what happens, to put it VERY simply, when a dollar changes hands many times. Each additional dollar you put back into the private sector generates a fraction of itself in tax revenue for the government. Tax revenue actually WENT UP after the tax cuts because more dollars went into public circulation. It is the reverse of the crowding out effect. There is a concept of marginal returns that limits the amount of margin return from each dollar from a tax cut. The best thing we can do to reduce the huge deficit is to run the government like a business.

Here's my plan:

1. Increase interest rates gradually by about a half point a year, so we don't shock consumers. This will increase investment, and tax revenue at the same time, without having to raise the tax rates.

2. Junk the current tax system and go with a fair-tax and cut the average corporate tax rate to 20%. This is also likely to stop the outflow of corporations overseas.

3. Eliminate capital gains for businesses, which would encourage more business investing and generate more tax revenue from operational income.

3. Cut spending! We spend ridiculous amounts of money on local state earmarks.

4. Do not take on any more new projects: IE bailouts, universal health care, etc. until we can pay for them. No more corporate welfare and reduce foreign aid if not eliminate it!

4. Put a moratorium on spending increases.

5. Eliminate and/or severely trim down the following departments: Departments of Education, Justice, Energy, etc. Many of these things do not need to be federal. Junk Homeland Security. That's just stupid!

6. Allow seniors to choose their own medicare services, providers and private insurance. The waste and fraud in medicare is staggering! I mean $300.00 for a wheelchair pad and $180.00 for a metal cane!

7. Sell off government assets that are not being used. We have a ton of land, oil, buildings, etc that are dormant.

8. Allow workers to opt out of social security by privately investing their funds in any investment account they prefer. Also, on those who don't opt out, eliminate the wage cutoff. This would result in a massive influx of investment into private companies and would result in expansion and job growth.

This plan would at least put us on the path of deficit reduction. It wouldn't be quick or easy, but it would be lasting.
Also, according to Rasumussen Reports, Obama's tour wasn't successful. He had a bounce that vanished as quickly as it came. Perhaps because Europeans can't vote here. LOL!

I think some of those are cool. I am not for opting out of Social Security. To me, going for that represents a fundamental misunderstanding of SS. I am for creating larger caps on investing in things like 401K's and IRA's because people can actually retire on that and have their SS -- the same cannot be said for SS on its brightest day. Plus, letting people invest their own SS money to me only leads to a bail out down the road. I am for, however, allowing the SS trust to invest in a limited way in the markets.

As for spending, I suppose it could be cut, but arguing about what gets cut could lead to WWIII

As for Obama's tour, I am unsure if the bounce was intended to be permanent. It was more of a deal to show he could be Presidential, etc. He accomplished that. The tour was clearly successful. And, mind you, I am no fan of his. I mean if he had made any mistakes of any significant proportion, McCain would be using those instead of the untrue and lame ad

I'm glad we agree on a few things anyway! My understanding of the ad is that is has been fairly effective. I, personally, would like to hear more about issues, as I'm sure you would too, but I think we're in the minority anymore. Politics seems to have denigrated into sound-byte matches. I would have loved to have seen those townhall meetings. But, in the words of Peter Green, "oh well".
