Yes, it is fun to think of the possibilities. Add Evan Bayh to the list of possibilities for Hillary. He was governor of Indiana and is now a senator. He endorsed her for president.

I might choose Wesley Clark. A general on the ticket would mitigate the peeling away of votes by people who might want to vote for war survivor symbol John McCain. He sticks up for her all the time, so I am sure he would take it.

Well, Clark was standing with her at the podium right after the Iowa loss, so it seems logical he's near the top of her list. And you're right about the strategy of trying to use him to offset McCain's military appeal.

Now Lieberman is saying he will not be VP no matter what.
Edwards & Giuliani seem to be on their best behavior towards the others now that they're both dropping out (or about to); it seems that they both might want the VP slot.

I really don't see Edwards going down that same road again, but Guiliani is a possibility, I suppose. Though a McCain/Guiliani ticket would really piss off the evangelical/fundamentalist base.

I think McCain or Romney would be wise to go with Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska. She's a member of the NRA, supports the war, and is strongly opposed to abortion and gay marriage, so her conservative credentials check out. She's only 44, which would provide some balance for John "I used to babysit William McKinley" McCain, and being a woman counters the historical aspect of Hillary's campaign. Her husband is a fisherman, they have a son in the Army, she took on corruption in her own party, and she has an approval rating in the 80s in her state. Rudy will alienate too many on the right and Huckabee will scare off the rest of the country.

I think Hillary goes with Obama. Everybody knows him now, and even if Democratic voters prefer Clinton, Obama still has lower negative ratings and appeals to independents and perhaps even some Republicans. He's much more charismatic and is still seen as more of an outsider. If Obama gets the nomination, I think he's the one to go with Wes Clark. Clark is older and wiser, has great military experience, and has a small, but loyal following among liberals and moderates alike. It also extends a nice olive branch to the Clinton camp, perhaps getting them more involved and burying the hatchet after the campaign.

On paper, I think that Bill Richardson is the perfect VP candidate. Former congressman, former UN ambassador, former cabinet member, governor of a southwestern state where the Democrats have been trying to make some inroads (and have been succeeding, too). The problem with him is that he just lacks a lot of charisma. He comes off, to me at least, as awkward, aloof and a little abrasive.

As for Ted Strickland, sure he's popular here in Ohio...but I don't see what he would bring to the ticket, aside from Ohio. He doesn't really have much expertise in any particular field, and while he was a congressman for twelve years (I think), he didn't really stand out for anything. I work in the Ohio Senate, and I know that while he is popular nationwide, there is a lot of talk that he might just be a one-termer.

On a semi-related note, I was eating in the Capital Cafe yesterday and he sat right behind me. He was with another man, and it was awkward to observe, because I don't think they said one word to each other the whole time.

From personal experience, I've observed that he's kind of an awkward guy to begin with.


I've had to give him some policy advice from time to time ;-)
