i really dislike Carrie. It makes me sick to my stomach, but I suppose thats the intent. I'm not really a Kubrick fan...but The Shining is definitely a better motion picture.

I have been a HUGE Stephen King fan for more than 30 years and i think i've read almost everything that man has written.
The Dark Tower series took a me awhile to get started on(i kept picking up the 1st volume and started reading only to put it away again after a couple of pages for about 3 or 4 times ) but about 5 years ago i finally got hooked and read the then available volumes in 1 go, and then anxiously waited for the sequels.
I even fell in love with Roland (i know... i'm nuts) and i cried when Oy died.
What i love most about his books is that he writes about every day things and names them as well, like MacDonalds (or the Big Tits of America ), Kool Aid and so on.To me,it makes the stories ever so real and it is something other writers do not often do. The past couple of years i have also found that his books have evolved from mere horror to more sensitive stories, stuff that could happen in real life. His latest book, Blaze, is a very good example of that; i felt really sorry for the guy.
I do favor the books over the movies. With the exceptions of Stand by Me and The Green Mile, the books are always much better than the movies, as in most cases you need to use your imagination. And once you've pictured someone in your mind, most of the times the actor/actress in the movie does not look anything like the one you've imagined.

Thank you.
I think The Shining is one of the most overrated films ever. Little girl ghosts in a hallway don't scare me in the slightest, and Shelley Duvall shrieking, begging, and collapsing in tears is one of the most annoying things in moviedom.
I saw Pet Cemetary & Needful Things, both of which also stunk. Saw part of Rose Red & it was lame. I think it's foolish for any horror writer to think he's going to scare people when commercial breaks abound.
IMO Carrie & Misery are far more entertaining movies.
Never read his books.

Default The Mist

I went to see "The Mist" last night, and I thought it was pretty good. It did remind me, in parts, of a "B-movie" or at least one you would see on TV as a mini series. There were a few parts in it that were slower, and I have to admit I was highly annoyed at all the young people in the theater that had zero respect to those around them. There was a couple in front of us that kept taking out their cell phone. The light was so bright; it distracted me from the movie. Then, the group of girls behind me kept talking and shaking their popcorn bag. I turned around and gave them the dirty looks, but it only lasted a few minutes. It was pointless to ask them to be quiet, because almost the entire theater was loud. Obviously, I only noticed it during the quiet, slow parts of the movie. Everyone was cheering and shouting during more intense, louder scenes. It was one of the worst crowds I've ever seen a movie with.

Other than all that, the movie was great. The ending really surprised me. I won't give anything away to those that still want to see it, but OMG! I couldn't believe it. I will definitely be renting/buying this when it comes out on DVD.

I'm a huge Stephen King fan, but I have not read any of his books. I've seen almost all of his films, and mini series. IT used to scare the sh*t out of me when I was a kid. I've hated clowns since I've seen that and Poltergeist. I am a huge fan of horror movies. Not so much the gore, but just the fear. I HATE spiders and last night I about threw up during certain scenes in "The Mist". LOL I told my friend that I went with that it would be so funny if someone would sit in the back with a handful of fake gummy spiders and throw them at the perfect moment in the crowd. I would have loved to have done that last night. LOL Damn kids...wasn't so long ago I used to be that age, but I don't think I ever acted like that! At least I hope not!

I'm not a fan of anything particulary scary but I have seen Pet semetary (which was freaky enough for me and probably a bit tame as scary ones go!)oh yes, and The Shining (Jack is enough to scare anyone, let alone play a crazy man) did he not write Silver bullet, as well, or is that someone else..? Now that was creepy.....I'm wimpy, give me a romantic comedy any day.

I love Stephen King, and in my opinion, The Dark Tower series is pure magic. I've been really, really wanting to re-read it in its entirety. Just thinking about the intricacy of the story, the development of the characters and the pure imagination that went in to creating this entire world (which you learn expands even beyond the pages of the Dark Tower books themselves) literally makes me giddy and excited.

I could not agree more. Sometimes it felt like reading a western, other times it was like i was reading a historic novel about knights, there was romance and suspence and science fiction all combined in 1 story. There were scary moments and sad moments ( i shed more than 1 tear reading these books - who could have imagined that with a Stephen King story !? )
I also still marvel at the ending ; it is pure genious and the only ending possible really. Can't wait for his next novel (Duma Key) to be published.
