1. I think ???? should buy the Ledge.

2. If/when the Ledge falls under new ownership, I would love to see threads remain unread until you actually read them (as opposed to....when you log or time out, everything appears to be read when you come back) as a new feature.

3. The Ledge should do away with members who haven't logged in for 2 years (or less?)completely.

If/ when the Ledge falls under new ownership, I would love to see a Photo/Download forum. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to actually enforce the board rules or just get rid of the FAQ section. To enforce the "rules" selectively is crap. So, follow through equally or ditch them entirely.

The new owners should encourage more people to support the board. If you are posting several dozen times a day and have strong opinions about how the board should be run, you should cough up some $ to help out.

2. If/when the Ledge falls under new ownership, I would love to see a music trading forum as a new feature.

Are you seriously thinking about purchasing it?

I'm only going to answer the first question, because I don't really have an answer for the others.

I think a group of active Ledgies - each with their interests focused on different eras of the band - should buy the Penguin (and with it, of course, the Ledge). This way they could split up the time and cost of purchasing, updating, and maintaining the site and the variety of interests would help to prevent certain areas of the site (like solo discographies and such) from being neglected.

I think the idea of selling to Warner Brothers or any member of the band is foolish. The best sites are always the ones owned and operated by fans, and we've seen how great fansites become not-so-great once becoming "official." I'd hate to see The Penguin suffer the same fate.

I do agree with this, only thing is I don't know how much the discog would cost on it's own (since that's the part I'd be interested in buying) but that aside, I only know how to do the data entry in to the discog database, I don't know any of the tech stuff so that's where I get stuck, even if I could afford just the discog (& I don't know that I can).

I completely agree on this! Since I am interested in all 16 FM members, I certainly wouldn't neglect any of them if I could get back in to do more data entry, I just wanted to get all the older entries caught up before adding new ones so I could keep track of which ones were done and then what needed to be added "from scratch to finsihed" but since I haven't been able to get in to the discog for 2 months now, I can't even do that, so here's hoping something gets ironed out soon in some way.

Couldn't agree more with this! Here's hoping The PENGUIN stays unofficial.

1. I think someone who actually refers to "The Penguin" being for sale should buy the Ledge. (Nothin' personal.)

2. If/when the Ledge falls under new ownership, I would love to see Ledgie of the month as a new feature!

3. The Ledge should do away with free memberships completely.

oh you know good and well that most people refer to this as "The Ledge" and mean "The Penguin" - and most just do that out of habit, not to infer that the rest of "The Penguin" is of less important. don't you think?

No. Not really.

Not to mean I don't think you value The Penguin, because I think you do. But, no, I don't know that at all. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Perhaps I'm just cynical. I could be wrong. It's happened...

I'd like to think that most people around here would know what I was talking about. I know that The Penguin encompasses much more then the Ledge, but since this is obviously the most active feature of the Penguin I figured I would just keep it Ledgie-centric. I can certainly start a "Hey, what would you change about the Blue Letter Archives?" thread if that'll make you feel better.

I think that anyone considering buying the PENGUIN would know what they were getting into. Give us more credit then that.

My mistake. Like I said, it was nothin' personal. It's not like you're required to think anything of The Penguin. Still, I'm glad I'm wrong.
