2000-2007

In no particular order.

Destiny Rules - FM
A Sorta Fairytale - Tori Amos
This Boy - James Morrison
Summer In The City - Regina Spektor
Suffer Well - Depeche Mode
Jesus Walk With Me - Kanye West
Spies - Coldplay
Tymps - Fiona Apple

That's what comes to mind.

You're right. A few years ago I only listened to old stuff because I thought everything new was like the pop/rap/hip-hop they played on most radio stations. Then I discovered indie radio, and my whole perspective on music changed. You will find good new music; you just have to look in the right places.

But she was complaining that she didn't like modern music that was played on the radio - top 40 - so I told her to look a bit deeper into other genres

And Im sorry Ryan, IMO top 40 stuff mostly sucks

I'm going to have to agree, I don't know what makes the top 40 where you are Ryan, but over here I have to say it's mostly crap. I'll come up with my list later on, I am late for work.

i was getting ready to type up my No Love For Arcade Fire or Jenny Lewis diatribe when you saved my day. also deserve more attention: wilco, flaming lips, littlest man band, mike doughty, and steel train.

i don't have enough hours in the day to filter that down to ten songs. actually, i do. just not in this day.

You know, I hate it when people complain that music used to be soooo much better and is crap now. I guarantee you there was as much crap music in the 60s, 70s, 80s or whenever, the only reason it seems like those years were better is that everyone has forgotten most of the crap while mainly the good stuff has endured. If you're only listening to top 40 radio then you're only hearing a tiny percentage of the music out there.
ilu sharon

i can't come up with 10 nor can i put them in order ... so here's some songs i like

emmylou harris - michelangelo & a love that will never grow old <3 <3
patty griffin - truth #2 & no bad news
cyndi lauper - above the clouds
dolly parton - stairway to heaven
stevie - TISL
brandi carlile - late morning lullaby
eliza gilkyson - hiway 9
new pornos - unguided & sing me spanish techno
charlotte hatherley - be thankful
grace potter & the nocturnals - nothing but the water (parts 1 & 2)
melissa etheridge - breathe
tom petty - saving grace
feist - mushaboom

i think i'm biased towards female vocalists that's all i can think of now.
