Did that make sense? I can't tell.
Anyways, I agree.
Yeah, that makes sense But I think it's a combination of John's bass and Chris' Rhodes electric piano that make it funky. They get into a grove together to make sweet, sweet lurve baby

It's such a great song and I love how Christine comes in on that high note: "Sweeeet, wonderful you..." Her voice sounds so slinky on that song.

You are right, that is why I said "the band" is my favorite thing about this song. It grooves almost criminally. You can't discount Lindsey's guitar, either, or even Mick. No matter how much you want to discount Mick. hahaha. It really is a kind of perfect song.

I would still never think of it as a noun, though. Even now, i have lost "getting it" like I did seconds ago.

What if the sentence was: "You make walking fun". Isn't that different? Isn't that a straight verb? If so, why is "loving" different?

Edit: I see by reading your Wikipedia that it is kind of complicated, and I should probably use that as the full explanation, instead of bugging you. It's pretty explicit, in theory it should explain it to me, though you are explaining it more simply.
Also, I am uncomfortably reminded of my mom right now, so...
"walking" would function the same way as "loving." for some reason, i cannot figure out what part of the sentence "loving" is functioning as in "YMLF," or i'm sure i could be more succinct. but i'm pretty braindead right now.

Thanks.

- not really, not at all. Although faced with actual complex grammar rules after so many years, it is pretty odd. I'm more of a stickler for spelling and logic. Grammar is dangerously close to "word math" It isn't really, I just made that up because it made me laugh.

Since you're braindead right now, you're probably about on par with me. Only about this one thing, big head.

no, you're right, grammar is totally word math. i would extemporate (made that word up), but y'know. brain death and threadjacking and all that. i wish david o. were still around, he'd be able to explain it better than i could.

Naw, he wouldn't. It might be a longer explanation, though.

"Extemporate"
- now you're speaking my languagosity!

P.S. - You rock.

I love this song...almost as much as Oh Daddy. like P said, Stevie's harmonies are amazing. Christine really showcases her songwriting talents here I think, lyrically, too.

I LOVE this song. Most of the harmonies, by the way, are Christine's, not Stevie's. She's layered herself several times underneath the lead vocal.

In many ways, this is the ultimate live performance song. It never ceases to get the crowd going.

I think YMLF is of Christine's all time best but what makes it so special is that the overall band performance. No weak links.

If David O. was still around he'd be saying how YMLF holds its own against the best of what Gershwin or Porter had to offer - and how it leads the way to the studio perfection of Gypsy. No arguments whatsoever from me.

Chris says on the Rumours DVD-A that this is mainly her arrangement and that only the chorus that diverts from the groove was one of Lindsey's arrangement ideas. This be true, her keyboards truly drive the track forward. I love the Rosebud doc version with the extra vocals at the end and Stevie fooling around with a guiro. Her best instrumental contribution to Fleetwood Mac for sure - she could've been the world's best guiroist if she hadn't stopped playing it!

A great song in the live environment as well with powerful plucky solos from Lindsey around 1980-1982.
