And Johnny Stew is always right.

Yeah, it was recorded for 'Rock A Little,' with Keith Olsen producing, but wasn't released until they threw it on the b-side of the "Blue Denim" single.

I always thought it was so strange that they chose to release a song Stevie recorded in 1985 as the B-side to a 1994 release. And those 2 songs so don't go together, Blue Denim and Mirror Mirror. Mirror Mirror is so RAL and should have been on the album. It's like "for Klonopin Stevie please listen to the A-side and for coked out Stevie please refer to the B-side"

I have a bunch of different takes of it--or have they already been mentioned in this thread? I think the instrument tracks are all the same but Stevie is just revocalizing from one to the other.

Record companies want you to buy the single, and this is just a little bonus, something unreleased. If you are a fan you'll buy the album, and if the b-side to the single was on the album, there would be no need to buy it, but if there is an unreleased track, or an alternate version, it just entices you to go for it.

That makes sense, thanks MacMan.

I do not have a lot of time online every day so I can't upload that much stuff due to dialup. It would have taken me almost 4.5 hours to load the ones I have. and the bad thing is that the ones I have I do not know how they equate to the ones posted here. All I know for sure is that I have a version named
RockingALittle_12_MirrorMirror.mp3 but it is not as clear as the one Nancy has on www.buckinghamnicks.net. If it is not one of the ones posted contact me and I will send it to ya ...........

To me, this is one of the most frustrating tracks that Stevie has ever recorded. I love the music. The guitar riff is monstrous and catchy. The cheesy synths swell with drama and foreboding. She sings the **** out of it. A few of the lyrics hint at an eruption of fury, rage, and explosive revelation, then....nothing. There is no meat to the story. It hints at things. It presents dramatic and vague images. The music builds toward a bombastic and shocking chorus, bridge, or something. But it peters out and never quite delivers. Never has a song promised so much and delivered so little. This song is all foreplay and no climax. It is the musical equivalent of blue balls.

I adore this song. I wonder what Stevie didn't like about it. I think she should have put it on "Rock a Little" and named that album "Mirror Mirror", as originally planned. I remember buying the Blue Denim cassette single and listening to Mirror Mirror in my car and totally freaking out. The love those vocals!!

I always thought that "Mirror Mirror" as it appeared on the flip side of "Blue Denim" was re-recorded for the TimeSpace album, and was ultimately not included on that album. If you listen to the vocals, they are so much more early 90s Stevie vocals than RAL-era vocals. And the version that appeared on the single sounds nothing like any of the RAL-era demos floating out there.

Interesting perceptions, sparky. I see what you're saying.

THAT IS SO TRUE!
She had trouble cramming so many lyrics into one cohesive song.
The official lyrics of Mirror/Mirror contain more information than the B-side that was released on Blue Denim. It always struck me as an incomplete song.
The demos have most of the original lyrics intact..take a listen.

I have heard all the original lyrics, and some of them help a bit. Ultimately though, even with the complete lyrics, you are right. It is an incomplete song. It almost feels like she was writing around the real subject.
