The actual SYW demos Stevie brought to the sessions (the "Phoenix Four": Say You Will, Destiny Rules, Illume, and Silver Girl) aren't in circulation, other than what is briefly heard on the DR documentary. (So - if you have the DVD, you've already heard what everyone else has.) Someone ripped clips from the DVD a few years back, but I haven't seen them since.

Or are you asking for the older demos:
- Thrown Down: TISL Demos 1 or 2, and "Wall of Sound" outtake with Lindsey
- Not Make Believe: TISL Demo
- Running Through The Garden: RAL demo
- Smile At You: Jeez, Mirage (?) demos, like 3 or 4 of them
- Goodbye Baby: "The Tower" demo from the '70s

As for Everybody Finds Out, I've never heard of a demo for that. And until I actually had the CD in hand, I thought it would be a Lindsey song.

Yeah, Jaz, spill it! I can't remember seeing that one, either.

Looks like maybe a Tusk outtake to me, though.

Oh I see.. didn't realize that they weren't in circulation.

Im dying to figure out exactly what she didn't
like about Lindsey's production.
He did an amazing job at not making her
sound like a goat (the "Everyday" voice)
and the whole album is just fantastic.

That always happens.. fans usually like
what artists don't. And artists usually
really like certain songs that fans don't.

I swiped it from those eBay photos and photoshopped it a bit.

is it just me (probably is) but is the "single" version of Thrown Down the best version of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the versions they had TISL & SYW

Actually Stevie didn't write the music to EFO, only the lryics. Rick Nowels wrote this song (which happens to be one of the best on the album IMO). I was curious why they would use a song with someone else's music when they have 2 very competent composers in the band. Stevie has so many beautiful songs she wrote herself that they could have put on SYW.
Anyway I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that we have no demo.

That's because although she CAN do it, she probably liked the idea that Rick had for the music. She isn't an arranger or producer. She can write the melody of a song on piano. But she can't write arrangements..etc

She probably just really liked Rick's idea, and went with it.
It is a VERY cool song if you think about it!

Exactly - but she didn't write the music for RTTG either...

I think an EFO demo has to exist, possibly 2 of them:

- Rick Nowels' original instrumental
- Stevie's vocal demo

I really doubt Stevie would bring the song to Lindsey without a vocal demo, although I suppose it's possible they could have worked out the vocals together. (But highly unlikely given the faces he makes while trying to work out the Angel vocals with Stevie on the Tusk Docu... ) But I think Rick's instrumental is a given.

I love the song too, and it really got the album marketing shaft. So did Miranda.

I agree. What fascinates me is Stevie's (or any other lyricist) ability to set lyrics that match perfectly to this song and others. It fits the "feel" of the music very well.

That's what I think, too. She's said several times that's why she wrote the lyrics for and recorded "I Can't Wait". Something along the lines of, "Rick gave me an instrumental track, and it was some of the most exciting music I'd ever heard..."

eek! it really doesn't bother me if stevie writes the music or not
she wrote the lyrics
that's all i'm interested it.

but with EFO........the music TOTALLY fits with the lyrics
i can't even write 1 line of a song
let alone try and compose the music for one

Reallly? Who wrote the music to that one? Good to know though b/c I can't stand RTTG so at least I can't say she wrote bad music.

See it TOTALLY matters to me and I so wish it didn't. Knowing that Steve is a songwriter (meaning she can compose basic melodies, we know she doesn't arrange, etc.) I always put an emphasis on whether or not she wrote the music to a song and it tends to bother me for some reason if she didn't write it. For example she didn't write the music for 3 of my favorite songs, I Can't Wait, Rooms on Fire, and EFO. Being that the music and the lyrics are equally important to me (although if I don't like the music to the song chances are I'm not going to be a fan of it even though it has great lyrics) it seems like they are really HER songs if she composed the basic music AND wrote the lyrics. Doesn't make them any less great of songs, I just wish she wrote the music to all of my favorites. Other examples are Seven Wonders and Nightbird. I love them to death but they are not her original music compositions.

I only found out about 3 months ago that she didn't write the music to Rooms on Fire (which has always been my favorite song) and I almost had a heart attack . I don't know why it matters to me so much, it just does. I don't love the song any less I just wish she had written it. I hope this makes sense!

You are so right! That is an amazing ability and one I admire greatly! I've tried to do it myself and it's very challenging. Stevie is very gifted at it.

Ray Kennedy & Gary Nicholson. They both have written other stuff for Stevie/The Mac too, which I hadn't realized & found pleasantly surprising. (Click on their names in the link to see the lists...)

I found this on the Penguin - they're not listed on the Nicksfix for some reason. Neither is Rick N. for EFO.
