I would say the thing that got my attention most was the mention of Lindsey hitting Stevie. I've never read anymore about that or couldn't really get an idea of a history (if any) behind it.
Granted, the fact that Stevie and Lindsey get on each other's nerves is no big secret! ![]() |

Stevie has said of that night that she thought Lindsey was going to kill her, and that Lindsey probably thought he was going to kill her, and that if he did and the band didn't kill him first, her family would. Mick, at the time he was writing the book, was pretty coked up and probably still upset with Lindsey for leaving the band. From how I was reading it, the incident probably happened at night, and Mick might not have known what he actually saw. John has joked that when he told Lindsey he should probably leave now, he meant Christine's house, not the band. In other words, Lindsey probably didn't actually hit Stevie, but, make no mistake, it wasn't a pretty sceene. It was loud, it was vocal, and I think both Stevie and Lindsey let things get out of hand. Both were too emotional for very different reasons. Embellished? Probably. 100% accurate? Probably not. Close enough to get the idea? Yes.

Ahhhh...just another day in the Buckingham Nicks relationship. What would life be if these two weren't at each other once in a while? I agree with note upthread, because I've always believed that night was a very bad scene, but slightly embellished by Mick.

i also remember being beside myself with excitement when the book first came out. i read it, and believed it. i honestly can't remember if i had already heard about mick and stevie or not. i think i had heard rumours of it, but never knew it was true. i remember being surprised, but more "shocked" because he was cheating on his wife with her, and they all knew each other. but i was/am also the biggest romantic in the world, and i could see how and why they fell for each other. i still can. stevie DOES have a type - she falls for people who are creative, people she admires - be they musicians or producers. she appears to fall for people no matter what they look like - she is not shallow in that way - and she really could be! someone as beautiful and bewitching as her had her pick of men. she could have picked only the hotties - she didn't. she went for depth.
whether the book is 100% accurate... well, i think the basic stories are. i think the unfolding of events, the players, etc. are basically true. i think some memories have been embellished - and maybe not always intentionally. has it ever happened to you that you retell a story and add a little detail for excitement, and then when you retell it again, you repeat that detail, and eventually it becomes such a part of the story that you can't even remember whether it really happened that way at all? add a mountain of drugs to that... and well, there you go.

I've always wondered why there are fans who shutter at that notion of Stevie being with Mick, as if he were an orgre or something, and being much more happier with the vision of Stevie and Lindsey? Perhaps the B&N combo was much more physically and spiritually appealing to the legion of fans? They were a "package deal", and they both knew each other as teens, and basically loved and starved for each other - each chasing a shared dream. Whereas the whole Mick and Stevie thing was more like a beauty and the beast type of situation - coupled with the fact that he was married seems to activate the "yuck" reflex in some fans. I guess for me, in a way - it just seemed like a betrayal. yes, B&N were indeed long broken up by the time Fleetwood became her lover, but there is something incestual about it...like he was her adopted big brother...and they went a did the naughty. It seemed to invade a code of ethics. But, hey...if Lindsey didnt care, then why should we? (but did he care, and he's just not saying?)
I guess I root for the Buckingham/Nicks pairing - but I guess it was inevitable that Mick and Stevie would get it on. However, I tend to view Mick as being a bit careless with his affection for women. First there was Jenny - then Sara - then Stevie. I know it takes two, but he's a very big part of that "2". Does anyone remember in his book - when he talks about a woman with a sexy voice, who somehow got thru the phone to him, calling for tickets, and totally scammed him? She befriended him. He would put her name on the VIP ticket list, yet only her friends would show up. He was addicted to her phone calls. She'd tell him she was some model and worked in films. They talked on the phone all the time, and she'd send pictures of "supposedly" herself. He was so besotted with her that he almost destroyed his relationship with his wife - he even told her he was in love with someone else. I don't know if it was the drugs or the crazyness of the time, but he was a soft touch for falling in love. After some investigation, Mick found out that she was an overweight, plain Jane with a regular, unimpressive job that was just a bit nuts. This doesn't apply to why he was with Stevie - it just kind of shows that he allowed himself to get obsessed with women. He and Stevie were something else. But it was just a fling. Stevie even said it was like a dream...such a short time of romance, ending before their personalities could mingle too deeply and resentment reared it's head. There is only so much we fans will ever know about these things. Even with the S&L deal. They've told us many things...but there are even more things that are private between them -- and that part is what they probably keep to themselves.

She wasn't kidding when she wrote those lines, they do come from different worlds but are the same. The misunderstood child is not Mick, IMO. Who acts like a spoiled brat when he doesn't get his way? Mick did not want her to change. A sentiment that flowed through alot of her songs back then was changing..and how it affected a specific relationship. (Landslide..etc) To stay on topic, the book was a interesting one time read. Most of it was probably accurate to a degree but embellished. Lindsey said some of it was inaccurate. Stevie apologized to him for Mick's comments about their fight...if LB did something so awful that night, she would not be the one apologizing. They both probably got worked up, screamed, yelled, wanted to hit each other but Linds does not strike me as the type of guy who would ever intentionally physically hurt Stevie. Hell, he knows how to hurt her, by a few carefully chosen words. They both know how to push each others buttons. That seems more his style..to put her down or say something hurtful...at least back then. Nowadays I think he is much different. Sweeter, kinder, calmer, more understanding. Understanding a person makes it much easier to deal with their problems.

I definitely got that impression too. I also don't think that Lindsey is the type to physically hurt Stevie - perhaps with looks, gestures, words and crappy treatment - but not with fists. However, Stevie had mentioned in an interview that the fight basically started when she lunged at him . It seems she was mega pissed that he wanted to abandon plans to tour for "Tango in the Night". Apparently, she had thought of leaving FM herself, but the guilt was so overwhelming that she stayed. When Lindsey wanted out - she was so angry he would do what she was always too guilt-ridden to do, that she went after him and basically stirred up a hornet's nest with LB. He chased her throughout Chris' house until they were at the driveway...and I think it culminated into something ugly...what that was - I'm not sure. John said it got ugly. It sounded like he tried to choke her, or perhaps he rough-handled her. Mick said that LB screamed "get that schizophrenic off me"...or something like that....Stevie warned him her family would kill him if he did anything to her....so basically...any major injury or abusive contact was imminent at the time, but Stevie probably made that threat before his temper got the better of him. And then John asked him to leave the house...not the band...the house. In hindsight - perhaps it's better he left the band...he needed to get his life together. I can find the interview online if anyone is interested. I found it on youtube.com.
