Oh yes, a much better interview, than the last one! Hopefully she may have had time to reflect about the last interview and almost redeem herself a bit, in LB's direction anyway.
Ha..so she reckoned she'd have immigrated to NZ if she'd had kids (or words to that effect) Stevie now your'e talking..good idea.

You've gotta be joking. All I see nowadays is sludge,**** and more ****.It's all here today, gone tomorrow.
Jog back about 3 or 4 years ago..look at how many acts have already been dropped in favour of new ones. And the acts that were big even 2 years ago and are trying to sell now but nobody's real interested because music is product now. It's just consumed like fast food.
The latest songs are full of loops and samples usually put together by someone in their bedroom 'studio' ,as opposed to musicians actually playing anything. I fail to see the appeal of any of these modern crazes.
Still,it's nice to know it only has a short life span, roll on the next fad.

Great interview! The most exciting thing for me was that she said she has written thirty poems/songs. I hope she is going to do a new album! Maybe that is what she is doing this summer. Wishful thinking, I know!

Must be fun being old and bitter, huh!

Is there a lot of ****ty music out there? Sure is, just as there was twenty, thirty, forty years ago.

Are there a lot of short-lived fads? Sure are, just as there were twenty, thirty, forty years ago.

"Music is product now?" Do you think there weren't people saying this in the 80s? the 70s? the 60s? the 50s? "All I see nowadays is sludge, **** and more ****. It's all here today gone tomorrow." Thanks a lot, grandpa. Don't worry, that Lawrence Welk rerun will be on in a few minutes.

All this bitching and moaning about "rock is dead" and "music ain't as good as it used to be" has been going on for decades. It's never been true before, and it's not true now.

The one major difference in the popular music industry right now is that with media conglomerates set up the way they are, most of the best musicians don't make it to the top of the charts or have as much commercial success as they might have twenty years ago or more. But that doesn't mean those people aren't out there making brilliant music.

I understand that it might be easier to sit back and whine and jerk off to the good old days instead of taking the time to seek out all of the wonderful music that's being made in the world right now. But just because you've got your head up your ass and it's dark in there doesn't mean the sun isn't shining outside.

Ha! Thank you. I had the same conversation with my father in 1965. In his view the Rolling Stones and Beatles were disgusting degenerate hoodlums....a fad...gone in a year. Cut that hair off and send them to boot camp!

Forty years later they're playing at the Super Bowl!

you've gotta get out of the mainstream. the real music, the real art can be found in the indie scene. you just have to look and listen. i don't know the US indie scene very well, but canada's is unbelievable. i discover new music almost daily. i also have friends who are into the same kind of sound and content as me, and we share new discoveries. iTunes is a wonderful place to discover stuff, too. but trust me, there is unbelievable music being made these days.

I don't know if the US has any single scene that's as big and interesting as what's been going on in Montreal the past few years, but we've been mooching off that plenty!

I really enjoyed this interview. It felt like I just had my own conversation with Stevie. It was very intimate. The interviewer did a great job. Stevie has never been more candid, direct and eloquent. Age and experience have very much seasoned her. She has a warm, sage-like intelligence.

Sounds like she's really drawing a lot of inspiration from her visits with the war victims. I look forward to seeing how this comes through in her new songs, or better yet -- a new album.

It's the indie scene I despise the most!!!
I'm well in tune with all the scenes around at the moment and I can honestly say none of it excites me. Particularly here and in the UK indie music has become very mainstream..so it's all very tabloid at the moment. It's been raped. So it's not really indie anymore it's pop.
I don't doubt there's something special in music out there somewhere but it hardly seems fair that it won't get the attention that it deserves through TV and radio rather than having to seek it out through MySpace and iTunes. And with that, the whole thing's overpopulated anyway because of iTunes and MySpace..everyone and their dog has a MySpacemusic with their 'songs' on it. So really good artists are going to get swamped in. That's really what I mean about music not being exciting--everyone has the means nowadays to become popular/famous because of reality TV and the internet. That's no fun. It's no longer reserved for people with *that* charisma that can hold an audience's attention.
