Phew. Alternate tunings other than Drop D are still pretty much over my head.
Same here. I don't understand WHY songs are in different tunnings and still work I just accept it.

I'd love to be able to find a tunning that I can play the accoustic part of GYOW without a capo and then go into the solo.

You could just play the power chords during the verse and chorus like LB does.

It's his worst piece of work indeed IMHO.

The whole point of George's work, to me anyway, is simplicity and emotion. Lindsey's version fails on both counts.

Lindsey's interpretation of Travis picking is both enlightening and musically uplifting in his own work. But I don't really think it works that well on covers although I Am Waiting is not too bad I guess..

Oh, on a personal note, I've decided to return to The Ledge in a restricted capacity (Peter Green & LB forums only) when I have the time after a few rather nice Ledgies expressed that my knowledge was missed here (you know who you are guys )

Honestly now, as I have stated before, you can't and/or won't judge a cover as its own piece or work if you know the original, and especially if you know the original well. And as proof, most of the people here who criticize Here Comes the Sun bring up the original and how it is very different from it brilliance, therefore must pale in comparison. Mentions of his "butchering" of Harrison's are quite common. Maybe the point of doing a cover isn't to judge it on its own (although in Lindsey's case it most always seems to be) but you can't argue that it is so much different and worse than his other solo acoustic stuff, can you? It is very much similar to Red Rover and Big Love and Say Goodbye, Shut Us Down, etc. Me, who is for all practical purposes completely unfamiliar with the original Here Comes the Sun, rate it as some of Lindsey's very best music. If you actually think it is that much different than the aformentioned acoustic songs, don't be shy.

Why not judge it as it is indeed a cover and precisely NOT the original. It's only the original you can't judge UNTIL a cover comes out... Then you can judge them against each other surely?

George Harrison wrote "Something" but his own version is a cover. Joe Cocker released his version a year before George. "Run So Far" was written by George and released by Eric Clapton 13 years before George released his version of his own song. I prefer Harrison's version of "Something" and Clapton's version of "Run So Far" but what does that prove? Only that I'm entitled to my own opinion of what constitutes a good song.

The difference is, to my ear anyway, Lindsey wrote the music to his version of "Here Comes The Sun" to fit the existing lyrics and the point of that is the music just doesn't fit the lyrics, it's strained at best. In most cases Lindsey has been proven to write the music first and then write lyrics to fit. In this case it is in reverse order and Lindsey has tried to sculpt his travis picking style around the existing words and that is why it doesn't work and it shows.

Welcome back Justin!

It just doesn't seem right in the "space/time continuum" that the actual composer of a song is doing a "cover" of his own song. Sure, some other artist could record & release the song before the composer releases his own recording of the song, but it defies logic that a composer can be said to have "covered" his own work.

In that case, the Tusk album version of "Sisters Of The Moon" is a cover since Walter Egan actually recorded the song before Fleetwood Mac...????...nope, doesn't make sense.

Is that for all of the guitars? On the Soundstage version are Brett and Neale tuned to Open G as well? On the studio version how many guitars do you hear? I get 3 playing tops at one point but I find it hard to tell.

Sorry for all the questions I'm trying to make a tab of it so the me and two mates can learn to play it and I'm trying to get it right

EDIT: OK I'm pretty sure that they are all tuned to Open G (Capo 1) after trying to learn to play some of it last night.

Anyone have the tunings for any of the UTS songs yet that haven't been mentioned yet?
I've been working on a few of these songs, but as far as I can tell they are all in standard (somebody prove me wrong )

Show You How
To Try For The Sun (actually ever so slightly flat)
Cast Away Dreams

Anyone got any more? I'd guess Not Too Late and SUD (probably I Am Waiting as well, I guess) are in Open tunings, though I haven't got round to them yet. And we already know DOR and SGCYM.

EDIT: TTFTS is actually in open A as far as I can tell. Could be wrong.
