Did you hear she is in development of a new sitcom based on her mother? She said something about it on TheView, but I was too busy laughing from the previous joke, and I missed a lot of the explanation.

They are perfect to read this time of year. I did not know about Anne and God. I am surprised she would limit herself in any way. I guess I haven't kept up with her!

So you liked Lasher? I have never read it but I might now. I hated the end of The Witching Hour and I just couldn't get into Lasher.

That would be hysterical, her jokes about her mom always crack me up!

I just finished (like, just now) Swerve: Reckless Observations of a Postmodern Girl by Aisha Tyler. She is hilarious. And in a way that fits me well. I would recommend it. She's really smart, and really goofy.

Here's the new Anne Rice article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9785289/site/newsweek/

Stories about witches and ghosts get me every time, and Lasher is much more "supernatural" than TWH, so that's why I liked it better. Offhand I don't remember the end of the first book, tho. But, I do remember it taking a bit for Lasher to get going, but when it did...

I just requested this at the library.

You know, MDC, I didn't like that one very much. I didn't find it very funny.
I was worried Sedaris had played himself out when I read it. Maybe it's just his Street Angel.

Perhaps I should revisit it.

Oh, good! I really enjoyed it. I saw her recently on a late night show, and noticed she was really funny. I didn't know her before that at all. Except I had seen her on Friends, of course. She was promoting the book, so I got it.
The End.

That's why I like (or should I say "appreciate") it so much. He's always made me laugh, but until this book has never made me out-and-out sob hysterically onto the pages.

And I think "Us & Them" (the first chapter, about the family with no TV) is one of the best & funniest things he's ever written. The image of him gorging himself on chocolate so the no-TV freak kids (who trick-or-treat a day late) can't have any carried me through the rest of the book.

This was not my favorite David Sedaris book, but I have had to assess the reasons I liked him to begin with. I really just considered him to be a skilled humorist before, but not a serious writer, and maybe this is a transitional book.
Here is a link to the story I liked the best in "Dress Your Family..."

I am trying to remember the Hejira chapter (with "Amelia, it was just a false alarm" running through my head,) oh right, that chapter is heartbreaking!

Hillary Clinton Living History.

It's pretty interesting, I guess. I'm still reading it....

ooh - my fave book by Anne.

Triad is a good book too. I read it about 3 years ago. It's not, to me, a very well-written book, but a good, easy read.

I really, really want to read the Tori Amos book too.

I am sure I blocked it out. The thought of that song makes me almost inconsolably sad. I have to be in the right frame of mind to even think about it, let alone listen to it. Thus is the power of Joni.
