I remember the ads for Dianetics when I was little and they made it sound like it was the most extraordinary book. It made me want to read it.

I happened to pick up in those FBI docs that Hubbard touted scientology as one of the greatest discoveries since the wheel or some other absurdity. Now I feel like I have to read Dianetics!

Show him the sites Diss posted, maybe that will help. Also rickross.com.

All you have to do is ask him point blank whether he believes (or can get behind) the idea that we're all inhabited by the spirits of aliens who were slaughtered 75 million years ago. If he says yes, well, I suppose you should call Nurse Ratched and throw your arm into the air in mock disgust.

It's a fabulous, hysterical read; you won't be disappointed. I think I might have to dust off my copy and breeze through it this week.

The guy publicly stated that he only created Scientology to get tax breaks, for cripes sake!

Which is why we are truly going forward with Ledgieanics or Ledgiology or whatever we are. "I worship Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. No, for real. Stevie is the goddess incarnate and I can prove it because 27 million years ago..." I may have to really dive into my imagination for this.

They'd probably give me one for free outside the center that is close by but I am wary to go near that place. It sounds like a fun read. At the Celebrity Centre bookstore, when one of the minions spotted me, I felt like I was being backed into a corner by a giant praying mantis.

That's where I got my copy. I also got a video, a catalog to order **** like Battlefield Earth from, a brochure about Lunatic Ron Hubbard and his life's work, the results of my personality test, and loads of other ****. And a free tour and essential lockdown while they tried to indoctrinate us to boot.

They hit you with everything but the ****ing prices. It was a group of about 20-25 people that they had recruited right off the street (they're as persistent and forceful as Nazis). They gave us a tour of part of the Church and then took us into a room where they showed one of their ridiculous videos. They pleaded with people who were trying to leave to stay. I mean, pleaded with them. When it was all over, you're left with a few people who are either buying into the bull**** or, like me, were just interested in the absolute craziness of it all. The shrine to Hubbard is what really pushed the entire ordeal over the top, which says a lot because the "personality test" that they administer is horrifying. Anyone who dared bring up the cost of the classes was stared down and when I asked how many classes I might need to get the help I needed (this was aftert he test ), they told me that I'd probably qualify for the majority of them and that I should definitely take them all if I wanted to lead a life of joy and fulfillment. They rarely went into details because they didn't want many questions to be asked. I didn't dare give them my actual phone number or address, I just made them up.

When I ended up writing the article for the UMASS paper (that was why I had gone there in the first place), I got a good number of borderline threatening emails and letters addressed to the school paper offices. I'll have to dig them out, they're in the same box as Dianetics and all the other ****.

The same thing that everyone gets, that you need Scientology to help you and turn you into someone important and happy. There's a brief, shortened version on their site, but when you fill it out and press for the results, they want you to actually schedule an appointment at your local church in order to get the results and hear their pitch.

Oh, this is excellent ! What an adventure. How many classes to get the help you need, indeed. Wait a minute....they actually hit you with the whole alien thing and clearing the Thetan energy b.s. in that first meeting ?

Not in detail, no, and they didn't mention the alien bull**** once. They never went into detail about anything. If they had, there would have been a mass exodus even before the video started rolling. If memory serves me correctly, there were only five or six of us left when it was over and that was when we took the personality tests. I was actually disappointed that we didn't get hooked up the E-Meters.
