Flannel shirts make me see stars and vomit. I mean, they are just so fugly that even the words fugly or whoreanus are understatements when applied to them. You know you're in the presence of someone who must dress in the dark if they're wearing one of those bastards.

And the music is just as wretched. I fail to see the big whoop-de-doo over Kurt Cobain. His music was obnoxious to the Nth degree.

I like some of it. I also thought the band with the bee girl deserved to be exhalted just for that brilliance

Spice Girls back together... Yippeee!!!! I'm actually being serious here. There has been no good music on the charts in a real long time and I think one of their fun songs would be pretty refreshing right now.

I "did" the clothes for a minute, until I realized I looked ugly... Never, ever, ever, did I "do" the music, though. That's the time when I first turned heavily to Mac. Unfortunately the "new" purchases that started that out was "Timespace" and "Street Angel"...

Well I loved grunge and my boyfriend and I would crank it and drive and drive and it was cool. After a few years though I was so ready for it to be over, you can only stay depressed for so long! After C killed himself I wouldn't listen to Nirvana at all anymore, I was so pissed off at him for being so selfish. I still won't put in the CDs and usually change the channel if I hear them. Can't do it.

I figured the backlash to grunge would be shiny happy music which was cool in some regards (No Doubt) and not as cool in others (Spice Girls - even though some of their stuff is pretty fun).

Way longer! I have been to a concert in January 1996 and at that time they already had their debut album and like 4 singles released here! (I was 10 at that time, does that count as an excuse?)
I wonder when the Spice Girls break up again?

I don't like grunge either but I have this thing about groups/artists with no vocal/songwriting skills. None of those people can carry a tune in a bucket and whenever I think about that I get all angry (just like I do when I think of Britney) because those people got money for no talent and there are so many talented singers who aren't rolling in it like they are. Like I said in another thread, I'd like to give all of Britney's money to Mikki because she's SO much more talented.

It's one of those things in life I take too seriously, which is almost everything. Of course, I had the Spice Girls' first two CDs and the Backstreet Boys' second two. I wasn't immune to the appeal of either group at the time. I liked the catchy tunes but now I can't take the lack of talent.

[/end pointless rant]

One of my students (a Nirvana fanatic) wrote a very convincing paper arguing that Courtney Love hired someone to kill Cobain and that he never intended to kill himself. I guess y'all will think I'm crazy for even suggesting it, but all I know about the situation is what I read in her paper, basically.

I have to agree with you, though I think No Doubt leaned toward the grunge a bit to a degree near the beginning (definitely more so than the Spice Girls, which isn't hard ), especially in Beacon Street Collection. Whatever the case, Gwen could outsing and write better than all of them.

Well, I've never read much about the theory of his murder because it just seemed preposterous. I think Courtney was too much of a mess to think about life without him. I'm sure she felt she needed him. But I'm researching that stuff a bit right now.

Courtney's surgery has started to look heinous. She had a few things done at first that improved her appearance a lot. It was a good job. But she has since also gone too far. She has trout pout and her nose is too narrow. Her face is off balance now.

Anyway. This news is SO last week, Diss. Get with the times, dude. <3 I first heard it was going to be in Vegas, so I got super excited. But I've always been up for a trip to London... I'm amped for this because they put on awesome shows - especially when you're in the fifth row
Well, pardon me, your highness. I've yet to recover from Geri's cover of "It's Raining Men" for Bridget Jones, so you'll just have to take it easy on me this time.

For some strange reason, I giggle at the thought of you flying halfway around the world to see the Spice Girls. Are they coming out with a new album or anything?

See, I'm more of the ilk that wants to flip 'em the bird for that. Love it or hate it, at least the grunge artists actually wrote all of their own material AND played their own instruments! Nirvana especially gave rock a much needed kick in the ass. But, I live in Dayton, which is home to one of the big groups of the grunge/alternative era, the Breeders. I graduated from high school in 1993 and started college a few months later, so this musical movement was really all the more significant for me. Good times. BTW, the movement was ending more like in 1994, with the onset of Sheryl Crowe, Hootie & The Blowfish, and Dave Matthews, to name a few, and with the death of Kurt Cobain. But, honestly, by 1995 I really stopped paying attention to popular music altogether.

I would use the phrase "played instruments" in only the very, very, loosest sense.
