Default Holiday Blues

Anyone else experiencing some major holiday blues? I don't know what my problem is, it's not even like previous years where i just don't get into the spirit of Christmas. It could be that I graduate college next semester, and I'm scared to death. But the season just has me very down right now. I feel like anything could just make me burst into tears, and it takes A LOT to make me cry (as my nickname in the family is Stone Cold because I rarely show any emotion). I just wanted to see if I'm alone here, or if anyone else feels the same way. Just doesn't feel like Christmas at all...

Exclamation Except...

for shopping yesterday for a disadvantaged child (See the thread I started called "I must be getting soft...") I have been in a kinda typical December mood (If it can go wrong in our family it always seems to happen in the month of December), Which means I cannot wait til the holidays are passed.

It never feels like Christmas to me now, I guess I felt it differently when I was younger...So yer not alone.

I'm sorry to hear that. Make sure you get at least 1/2-1 hour outside in the sunlight every day, you may have a touch of S.A.D, a lot of people get it during these short days. It's quite an accomplishment to graduate college, and it's great to be young, so i hope your feelings start looking up.

Well, since I lost my hubby, Christmas just sucks. I try my best to get into the spirit for my lil one, but it's just hard. It sucks to be alone right now, considering what I had just a couple of years ago. So, no, honey, you're not alone. Just suck it up and make the best of it. It will pass...

It's not just you. I'm usually a little depressed from Thanksgiving- New Years. This year, I haven't put up any decorations at all.... which is unusual.
I've known several people who've kinda freaked out upon graduating college. One very close friend committed suicide about 6 years ago, weeks before graduating. I was devastated. I think- in reality- that people see graduation as an end to their.....innocense?
It's the last stop on the bus route of childhood, and, of course, that's scary.
Take it a day at a time,
david

I am sorry that you are not doing well during the holiday season. I felt like that a month ago. I was feeling sorry for myself like I always do this time of year becuase I don't have a special man in my life. I would see people around me getting Xmas stuff for their kids and I would feel very depressed.

Then of course I just started thinking that it is not about me.
I just started to do a bit of shopping for a few friends and My Dad and then I felt a bit better. You don't even have to get extravagant gifts just a little something to make someone’s holiday a bit brighter.

Like Brian J mentioned. The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots are really good organizations that need donations this time of year. Even donating canned goods at a food bank in your area would help someone that might not even get to eat on the holiday. There might be organizations that help Veterans in your area also. Helping less fortunate people this time of year makes you feel better. You don't even have to give a lot.

As for college, I think that it is great you are graduating soon. You have your whole life ahead of you. Don't be scared. Everyone has those feelings and it is normal. You will go on to bigger and better things.

My whole family's been a little down this season because we just lost my Grandfather, and though I wasn't close to him I know it's going to be hard on my Mom especially. So I can relate to the depression. It's been difficult to get into the Christmas spirit and all, but I'm thinking that the closer it gets to Christmas day, the more likely we'll all be to find a way to enjoy it in our way, even if it isn't as wonderful as all those Christmases when we were kids and everything was far simpler. I think being with my family is going to make that happen, and I hope the same happens for you.

As for graduating college, I have an inkling of what you're going through because I've got two more semesters of undergraduate school and though I know where I'm going to grad. school and all, it's still a new experience and an unknown, and I tend to be afraid of both of those. But I console myself by thinking it's something newer and better than what I knew before, and that has proven to be true in my life. It has always helped me to keep the mindset that where I'm going is better than where I've been.

Yeppers I get a little depressed this time of year but it’s my own fault and I don’t dwell on it. My immediate family has plans that don’t include me so screw them. I’m single and don’t drink so the party scene gets old. I’m probably going to take a thermos of coffee and head to the mountains this year. There are some nice overlooks up there. I’d go to a singles event but can do without the mind games. If I feel like getting some action I’ll pop into a bar around midnight and pick up some wild thing. There are too many things I want to do and wallowing in pity isn’t on the list. I might make a couple model hot air balloons and launch a few from the mountain. Kids will think its Santa. Weee……

that sounds great. I always want to go camping, but have no car and no one to go with. so i have to see my dumb ol parents...
I just want to point out again to sorcerer, if you're not usually depressed, and you don't have much to be depressed about, MAKE SURE YOU GET SUNLIGHT EACH DAY.
