I guess I am the minority here but I really love LB's work on Mirage. I still think they are brillant works.(production wise and mixing vocals too)! I do agree the lyrics are a little basic.

I agree with Setca, these tunes are not anything like Rumours!

I don't hate any of his songs. I love them all, especially EOTW and Can't Go Back. The entire album to me is a masterpiece.

BTW, my sister is a huge fan of Book of Love and Empire State.

I noticed some lengthy, insightful analyzing about why this or that. Can't we just blame the coke and the egos? I guess i'm just old fashioned...

With the exception of Oh Diane, I really enjoy Mirage as a whole (which would therefore include Lindsey's songs).

I love Lindsey's songs on Mirage!! I also LOVE the Mirage outtake Goodbye Angel. I need to get the box set out and give that disc a spin.

I really love Can't Go Back. I can't imagine Lindsey didn't love that song himself. It's in the Law and Order frame of mind....it's a gorgeous song. One of my fav's from Mirage all together.

Eyes of the World is also very pretty. I think it's inspired and the fact they still play it must mean he's happy with it, along with the rest of the band.

Mirage has some good stuff. With Lindsey it seems very extreme with me, I love it or hate it.

But there's some great stuff on there: Book Of Love, Can't Go Back, Eyes Of The World and, erm, Oh Diane....

Anyway, what do y'all think?
I'm as puzzled as you. Except for Empire State, they are all some of my very favorite LB songs, especially Oh Diane. I still love Empire State, but lyrically it drives me crazy. I adore Goodbye Angel and think it most definitely should have been on the album instead.

I suppose it makes sense, but I find it interesting that Law And Order has an overall sound that's a perfect cross between Tusk And Mirage.

I know so many disagree, but I am IN LOVE with every track on this album (except Empire State, see above).

It's too bad the band isn't more fond of it, but I suppose it's impossible for them to seperate their dismay towards what their attitude in making the album was from the music at face value.

IMO, it's a masterpiece.

Yeah, I think that's true. That seems to be case for Lindsey toward his own material on Mirage, and it also seems to be true of Stevie with Street Angel. The end product can't be disassociated from some disappointment during the making of it.

I like those songs, especially "Cant Go Back" and "EOTW". I cant understand why Lindsey did "Oh Diane" though. Its pretty, but its completely generic and wimpy (no offence Lindsey!). I even read that Lindsey himself hates that song!

Empire State is an interesting and enjoyable track, but Lindsey's best work on Mirage, I think, is his work on the other members songs. The arrangement and production on "Gypsy" in particular is gorgeous! Really beautiful work! And its a great song too, so I guess that helps...

I think Lindsey's contributions to Mirage (in terms of songwriting) suffered from a kind of watered-down treatment, compared to, say, Tusk. Tusk was, in comparison, a highly potent offering on Lindsey's part, whereas Mirage seemed more like a kind of compromise. A good album nonetheless...
