And, if you had read my first reply in this article, I said no one should use AF1 for their own political gain. That's not why we pay taxes. Pay to charter your own jet if you need it that badly. That's what Teresa did.
I think it is impossible for the Pres. and the First Lady to eschew AF1. I guess they could, but that is not practicle. I mean the security clearances alone would be momumental. That is why they should just have to pay the going rate to charter an aircraft that size if the trip in anyway contains a campaign event.

BTW - that is why we pay taxes. I mean when a Pres. campaigns from the White House, should he have to pay a portion of the rent that month Taxes are properly used to protect the Pres. and the First Family, etc.

Oh lord, where do I begin?

Of course it's practical to stay off of AF1 if it's not going to be used to do your job. Past president shave chartered planes during their re-election campaigns and every president should. It was big news when Clinton chartered a plane for a week. Use AF1 when it's necessary to do your job; campaigning isn't.

And, no, we do not pay taxes to taxi the president aorund as he raises money to stay in the WH. I don't care if you're a liberal or a conservative, you shouldn't do it. Use that money that people so readily give to your campaign and either charter a jet or buy one. And, honestly, I do believe that presidents should pay rent. But that's a whole 'nother issue.

I live off the deep end, didn't ya know?

Yes, the President should pay rent. It's bad enough that he has his own chef.

"I don't want it to burn, I've done that too many times before. My mom often used to say, 'The trouble with W' -- although she didn't put that to words. Anyway, do you want lemon on it?"

Give him another four years in the White House, and he'll be cooking peasants.

He already did that as governor. Texas became as illiterate and impoverished as ever. Then he attacked Clinton and said that Clinton had fudged the numbers.

For your sake, I hope not!!!!

But didn't you read all those old articles where Bush said it was a conspiracy and that he would know if he had his people living in poverty. The same week that his state was ranked as having the most impoverished citizens.

I think so. I love an election. I love when both sides SWEAR up and down not to mud sling and engage only in an open, honest, and friendly discussion about only the relevant facts all while the spin machines are digging up all possible dirt LOL

All the Kerry camp needs to do is play the clip of Bush pursing his lips mocking Karla Faye Tucker by saying "Please don't kill me!" and they'd have the election in the bag.
