By all means, everyone has the right to define fandom for themselves. Really I didn't intend to start THAT discussion again. I myself had recently gone through an anti-Stevie crisis that led me to criticize her lack of creativity, growth, and movement forward. It took seeing her in good form again, in person again, to realize that what first attracted me to her is still there.

That said, let me rephrase my initial statement that being a fan means appreciating who Stevie is now. For me, being a satisfied fan means keeping my expectations in line with reality. Stevie has limitations--how could she not? We all do. I accept her voice for what it is. I don't expect any changes in her setlist, so anything different is a treat. And she is apparently content to find fulfillment in pursuits outside of songwriting. I can respect that. I'd like to see new music, but if she has other things she'd rather do than write, so be it. I'm feeding my hunger for new music with other artists. I don't need to see Stevie 15 times a tour anymore. I guess I also
don't see the need to be upset with her for who she is.

Hell, I'm going to see Emmylou tomorrow night for the first time, so this week is heaven for me.

I love OTR, but not Dreams. I'd prefer that she drop Dreams instead, but can see why she thinks her choice to keep it over OTR makes more sense.

Default Went to Vegas

Hi,
I went to Vegas for the Tuesday and Wednesday shows. I was there with Nancy and Kristen and we met up with Amy and Stephanie for both shows. I believe both were great. I, to, tire of the same 'ol setlists, YET, switching up the order, being energetic, wearing a different outfit that I have seen, with the boots, moving around the stage with less swaying back and forth in front of her mic stand, made it feel fresh.

It is hard to judge a show too much without seeing it for yourself. The good thing about starting with Stand Back and going straight into Dreams is that the audience gets moving right away. The casual fans stand longer and bitch less when the die hards stand for the entire show. Tuesday night I stood the entire time. I danced and lip sang along with Stevie and the girls the whole show. There were people standing up near me but the majority were sitting down. Not one person bitched to me and that was very surprising considering the last time I went to Casaer's to see Stevie, during the entire show someone was bitching about someone standing in front of them. I didn't feel nervous about that at all which allowed me to loosen up and really enjoy the show.

Tuesday night's show was better for me yet I think there were good highlights from Wednesday's show. HSML was sultry, Edge was powerful, GDW had a few adlibs "...you cant save me now...you cant free me now..."etc..cant remember the rest, but cool.

I love the shorter skirt yet missing the SB shawl. There was no lengthy intro to the song. Speaking of intro, Bootylicious and the Dreams remix were played over the loud speakers prior to the show.

I hadn't seen Stevie live since 05 so I think I was just a lot more enthusiastic over seeing her play in Vegas than I was about the song selection. I hope the set list haters will get a chance to see it like this....You will see what I mean.

Emmylou is at the top of my list with Bob Dylan as acts I want to see. Atleast they put some effort and creativity into their live shows

What I love about Dylan is that he doesn't give a **** what the audience wants to hear - he plays whatever he feels like playing - and he has earned the right to do that. I think Stevie has earned that right to, but

i don't think stevie has attained the same god-like artist status that dylan has. dylan is much more widely acknowledged as a master wordsmith, whereas many people still see stevie as self-indulgent in her lyricism.

Oh don't get me wrong - Im not comparing Dylan to Stevie, in any shape or form. What Im saying is Stevie has been in the music business for 35 years, and she obviously still feels like she can't play a different song every once in a while
