Is that a euphemism for some sort of sexual act?

There are many reasons I am immersing myself in it. There is so much to absorb, lines that I missed, etc. I bought the screenplay, and already had the story and I am really studying it. The more I study, the more I see. It just so happens that there are some things going on in my life that parallel the story. Ideas about masculinty, companionship, the tone of one's life, making the most of the time you have...these are all on my plate and the movie speaks to them.

You'll have to excuse my recurring bouts of slight bitterness.

I completely understand and agree with all of that. I hope I didn't give the impression that I didn't like this movie, because I really did. I can't think of another movie where I couldn't stop thinking about it a couple of days after the fact. The emotional impact does sort of creep up on you.
Yup. It is dense and lingering. You wouldn't believe the stories I have been reading about how this film is dramatically changing the lives of people all over the place.

Sparky you'll be happy to know your film won 3 awards last night at the Critcs' Choice Awards - Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress (Michelle Williams).

I'm disappointed Ledger didn't win, but I was chuffed when I read that Williams won the award jointly with Amy Adams for "Junebug." Have you seen it? It's ****ing fantastic.

It is, and Adams is priceless. Hope she gets nominated for an Oscar, although I would be torn between her and Williams.

I was thrilled. I am thinking about getting cable back just to be able to catch awards season. And I am slamming my friends to get a job on the oscars. Regardless, I am doing a big ass oscar party job already, so I can see it on a live feed in a big theatre.

I noticed Michelle and Amy Adams both won but I'm not familiar with her or Junebug. What is it about?

Junebug is a must for your netflix queue, or other rental. I think it comes out on DVD later in January. I'll let dissention give the summary since he is more eloquent.

I just saw the movie last night, and I thought it was especially powerful. It was not cliche at all. The actors were really great. The landscapes and emaculate scenery in the film were also impressive. I think the love scenes worked out, and didn't end up awkward. It really paints a different picture of gay people that is often not portrayed in film...these are just two average guys struggling to make it in rural America, living double lives because that's just the way it is...and that in my opinion might actually portray accurately many homosexuals in the country. It kinda shows that they aren't any different than anyone else, and their love is all the same and just as genuine.

I really came out of the movie, with the feeling of seeing a great love story (which I always love), and the emphasis not being that it was a GAY love story...just a love story, of two ppl who loved each other but still lived these "normal" lives and snuck away for this affair..So much in love, in one scene Heath Ledger actually throws up while crying...great movie

Chris

Did anyone catch Larry King last night where the tag line was:

Quote:
Tonight, the debate over gay love and gay marriage heats up after "Brokeback Mountain's" big night at the Golden Globes. We'll get into it with conservative radio host Janet Parshall; also joining us the openly gay actor Chad Allen; R. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; and Guy Padgett, openly gay former mayor of Casper, Wyoming, the city where Matthew Shepard was murdered for being gay and the state where "Brokeback Mountain" is set. It's all next on LARRY KING LIVE.
Here is a link to the transcript - http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIP...17/lkl.01.html

It was a good show that revealed a little bit of the positive, more accepting light of the effect of this movie on people who otherwise want to preclude anyone from living outside of their warped perception of their religion. I get that these people are still mostly the majority, but the vibe I got was that this movie, even if just a little, is softening that posture in this area.

On edit - it wlways amazes me that people cannot see that having the govt. validate only one aspect of a major religion (not all Christians believe same sex marriage is wrong) is a bad thing. I guess because they are in the majority they cannot see that that sword could cut them as well if they were not in the majority. Thus, I conclude that the best way to deal with this and all religious issues is to keep them out of govt. The govt. should give no automatic benefits for any marriage (hetero, homo, polygamous, etc. ) - marriage should be a solely religious idea and it should stay there. But, the religious zealots need the gvot. to validate their religious ideals - plus, it is one hell of a money maker for them. If you want to fill your church - preach hate.
