Default This Just In...

FM has given an interview and they more or less ignore Stevie other than to say "She's busy attending to other commitments ...
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...#axzz30ZI8kEQL

The band further says "Following this round of recording, the album will be shelved while they gear up for the new tour, which opens Sept. 30 "
So it looks like FM is stirring the pot, trying to generate more drama directed at Stevie just like Mick did when Stevie started with "IYD"

Now that FM is doing interviews I suspect it won't be long before Stevie does the same...

I agree. Stevie has written hundreds of songs by herself (just look up her copyright submissions) So if she chooses to co-write, and the end result is fantatic, even better. It shows her willingness to not let her ego get in the way of potentially tapping into new fresh musical ideas and coming out with potentially a better end result. Christine has co-written for decades, and appears as she is doing it in overdrive with Lindsey now. I don't see co-writing as a weakness at all.

Exactly ...Does anyone mock Elton John because someone else writes all his lyrics???

They didn't co-write Hold Me.

So we enter the "You wouldn't say that to Elton John" era.

Stevie has co-written quite a lot with others in the past, although maybe not as much on one album as she did on IYD. Co-writing is not bad. The only question is whether it changes the nature of the songs she became famous for. It is common for others to co-write, but is there something happening that is a shift for Stevie?

In a sense, I think No Spoken Word sounds like more of a "Stevie" song than some of them on IYD. But I like all of the IYD songs except for Cheaper Than Free, New Orleans and the title track. So, I have no problem with her co-writing with Dave, although a song like Everybody Loves You is a little more straightforward than I'm accustomed to for her, lyric wise. The same was true of Say You Will (the single) though, which I always thought of as being linear for Stevie, but she did that on purpose, to fill in for Christine.

I think it's not good to sound too much like Christine, lyric-wise, on her own albums.

Christine co-wrote "Hold Me" with Robbie Patton. Stevie fans may recall him from "Smiling Islands" - which sounds like a typical early 80's soundtrack "Tootsie" type song, until Stevie begins singing, bellowing her part towards the end and it becomes a totally different song!

you mean the part where she showed him how it should be sung?

15 songs!!! Awesome. So I think they can stop now? Why are they still going. Pick the 11 that go best together. Not the 11 best necessarily so the 4 left off aren't "leftovers" but just a better fit for fleetwood macs album. Take those 11 and release the solo album and ship those other 4 to fleetwood Mac. They'll obviously have to re record them, because the players on fleetwood Mac songs HAVE to be mick John Chris and Lindsey.

This whole situation has to be the weirdest mix of crazy amounts of joy and confusion and just what the f**kness any of us have ever had to witness.

THINK AGAIN...
The current sentiment in the "Rumours Sandbox" is that the other 4 especially LB should have nothing to do with any of Stevie's FM songs...

No one said anything about Mick and John not being on those songs. For one thing, Mick would probably play drums on one of Stevie's solo tunes, so of course he'll play on anything she submits to FM. For another, we know how John is about that and no one is going to insult him at this point in time.

^^^^^^^^really? I'm sure even Stevie understands that she can't put her songs on a fleetwood Mac album without at the bare minimum mick on Dums and John on bass.

She wouldn't even want to.

Which is asinine! That is mainly the anti-Stevie fringe talking over there (not surprising, at all!) Meanwhile they totally choose to be ignorant of their own poll results (majority favoring Stevie) about whether to wait for Stevie, or release the album as a foursome without her. Currently standing at 70% in favor of waiting for Stevie, to almost 30% saying release it now without her. It's worth mentioning that these results are without the majority of Stevie fan members even voting, because they have grown disgusted with The Ledge and it's negativity, and refuse to come or post on this board anymore. Not that sales matter anymore, but this is consistent with Stevie bringing FM 2/3rds of their audience.

SYW just sold @1/3rd more than TISL.
IYD sold 500K worldwide (200K just in the US.) So I would expect a non-Stevie FM record to sell @66K. And a FM record including Stevie to sell @300K (in the U.S).

Oh yeah, what were Lindsey's sales for his last 3 solo records

I really don't understand why people are getting pissed off at Stevie for working on a solo record at the moment instead of immediately going in to record with Fleetwood Mac. For all we know, she and Dave could have planned on doing this long before Christine's announcement to rejoin the band.

This is nothing new with her. Nothing has changed. The band has accepted this fact ever since her solo career started in '81. They waited for her during "Mirage". They waited for her during "Tango". And of course the guys recorded for many many months before she came in for "SYW".

Can't we all just be happy we're getting new albums from both FM and solo Stevie? Not to mention a GRAND reunion tour from "The Five"?

Technology and society has progressed to an age of "we want it RIGHT NOW!" How about we let Lindsey, Christine, Mick, John, Stevie (and of course Dave) do their own thing, at their own pace, and in their own time. The quality will hopefully turn out better, in my opinion. We're definitely getting all three of these things, so let's just be patient, happy and grateful that this is even happening in the first place, shall we?
