I brought it up too, and since I LIVE here, and I know first hand what he did (he was terrible as GOV) I supported you my friend. re-read the thread and you'll see!

True - but I was focusing on the total amount of Federal Aid as we were talking about that. But, I will look later for how counties disburse that and other aid.

You did. If I remember correctly, it was you, Chris, and I who went on the Reagan tear.

Well that was condecending Of course I can think outside of the box. But, I, like you, cannot think of any solution that is better than fixing the system we have now. If you can - let's hear it.
Okay, Ayn, sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending, it just appeared you couldn't think outside the current paradigm with the arguments you were presenting. Just going by what you say.

One solution...lets start with less defense spending, mmkay? that would be huge, it would free up an immense amount of money.

No, my initial statements were that though W's numbers have risen every year he has been in office (which I consistently said was a bad thing) - they are still comparatively low (though 0% is the goal) and he is throwing an historic amount of money (more than Clinton) at it in an attempt to stop that growth.

You misunderstood that for me saying W is doing better than Clinton, which I never said.

In the end, let's not get into that again

Then you did not read my repeated statements requesting you present a solution instead of your bitchin' - which suggests I was and am open to any new ideas

I am all for it and never said anything to the contrary In fact, I repeatedly said here and elsewhere that I think less wasteful govt. spending is a great thing.

I believe I expressly said that I "did not have all the answers", but that one answer would be to "cut defense spending"
That's all I said. I didn't claim to have the giant solution, in fact I think I specifically disclaimed to have it, biotch.
I need more than 3 minutes to gather all my lifelong notes of what the real answer is. Sheesh.
Do you want my analytical treatise on Capitalism first, to lay the foundation, or do you want a simpler, meatier analysis/answer???

For your second point:
mmkay, that sounds fine...

Just like in the 20's before the Crash.
Good god, economic history is so simple, yet, few of our presidents care about it or understand it, apparently.

Well, then stop telling me I cannot think outside the box, etc. when I cannot produce one

It just irks me when people bitch about things, tell people they cannot see the forest for the trees, and then offer no viable solution

I am puzzled by homelessness and have scant ideas about :

a) why it exists
b) what can be done about it, if anything
c) whose problem it really is.

I had an uncle who died homeless. Why? He was a drunk. He wanted to be a drunk. He refused help, he stole from everyone, he was a bad egg from the nursery on is how my Aunt described him. (But man was he a beautiful young man...I digress.) My brother was homeless for awhile. Why ? He is a junkie. He stole from everyone, burned every bridge available, quit rehab many times, and now lives in a trailer in the driveway of a friend's mother. She feels sorry for him. He currently uses his disability checks to buy booze and from what I hear, drugs when he can find them. That's the extent of my experience with homelessness.

What I would love to know is why certain other civilized countries - European in particular - don't have this problem. God knows our government is loathe to take direction from ANY OTHER COUNTRY who has solved the problems that plague us, however, just for my own information I would be curious to know why it is such a problem here and not in other places.
The homeless problem in this country started in earnest when then governor of California Ronald Reagan decided to close mental institions and continued that on a grand scale when he took the office of the presidency. Let's also not forget how our veterans have been treated from the Vietnam era onward.
