He was when he was nominated

Did anyone really think that was not the final outcome of this?

I wonder what's going to happen when John Paul Stevens dies? He's about the only one left it seems besides Ginsburg that one might be able to call a "Liberal." I wonder what he thinks these days when he's sees what's happeneing to the court.

You'd have to be quite a dolt to have believed that he wouldn't be confirmed. Wait until he officially gets in there, it's going to be scary.

Either a dolt or willing to risk holding out hope until the fat lady has actually sung.

Yes, it'll be frightening. I hate this congress, they're all little sheep in lock step with the president except for a select few (the Kickass Caucus as the site you cited so aptly named them :laugh).

Not after the Dems' pathetic performance in the hearings, no. Maybe if they spent more time making Alioto talk instead of giving endless speeches, something could have been said that would make the general public pay attention when hearing claims that he is outside the mainstream.

Interestingly, he is not horribly outside of the mainstream

Which is frightening in and of itself.

Yeah, when you consider what defines mainstream these days.

Souter and Breyer are also both considered liberals. God help us if Stevens dies before Dubya leaves office. If he does, can't we just prop him up like they did that guy in Weekend at Bernie's??

Not to get off topic, but I thought I'd ask you, what part of Massachusetts does Barney Frank represent? is it Boston?

I think wanting to overturn Roe is outside the mainstream. Majority of Americans don't want that. His failure to say that Roe is settled law opened up a big opportunity for the Dems. Instead they made long pompous speeches about themselves and then Kennedy did that ridiculous stunt about the alumni group without having all his ducks in a row beforehand.

I guess I'll predict a 58-41 vote, with Harkin abstaining (wtf?)

5 Dems voting yes and 2 Republicans voting no.

I wouldnt be surprised knowing his reputation if he wasnt slightly intoxicated when he made that statement.
