I agree, but it also has to be said that I know I'm not the only person who has bought an album by a band I'm not necessarily a fan of and thought it was actually a really good album. I think most won't disagree with your statements, but a better track order and better flow might have made the album more listenable to people who aren't necessarily fans. It might not have sold two more albums, or it might have sold an extra 200,000 albums. But that's speculation.

OTOH, look at how glowing the reviews were for Lindsey's OOTC. It got some of the best reviews I've ever seen, got lots of promotion, had videos on VH-1, was played on the radio, and Lindsey even toured in support of the album, yet I think it sold about what "Time" sold. So it would appear that there's an "it factor" that the band no longer has.

I had people who weren't even fans running up to me panning the performance, especially Lindsey's. All I could sputter in their defense was "Well, they were cold."

Silver Springs and Landslide from The Dance as well as POTU Dance Remix

I realize those were not huge Top 40 stuff - but and interestingly, La Nicks is probably known as much for that version of Landslide as the 70's Rhiannon.

But, as far as top 10 stuff, yes, Tango was the end of it, except for album debuts, which Nicks and the Mac have both achieved since then, though no where near the sales prior to 87.

But, gosh, I don't even care. I'm shocked they have had the longevity that they do, lots of people are "over" way sooner. There's only a few others who've accomplished what they have, and I'm so very proud of them. You have to be a very special band to accomplish what they have. Even Tango, having a hit 10+ years after your first breakout, is an astounding accomplishment, what with the fickleness of tastes and the music biz.

Well, to be fair, 10 years later, The Dance was a HUGE hit by any standard for them as well even though none of the new material went anywhere So, I think that relevance in the music world along with La Nicks' critical and somewhat small commercial success of TISL four years later is what allowed the Mac to record SYW in the style they did. I mean they must have spent a couple of million to make that record once you count in the Bel Air house rental, the moving of the studio, the mixing, the production, promotion, etc. - though someone in the industry would know more about that than I would. I have to wonder if they record another record if they will get that perk given the relative failure of SYW to sell well - remember they were talking millions of units sold, which never happened though the tour was a relative success.

True. But that doesn't really go against anything I said. Um...I think they may not get that perk, which I think is fine. And I submit, again, that considering how long they have been in the biz, SYW's failure is very relative.

Or, even further, having your biggest hit ten years after you made a pretty big debut, had a bunch of hits in Europe, became obscure in Europe, developed a big following in the US, had three guitarists leave on tour, cancelling two of those tours, having a fake Mac on the road at one point, and having everybody in the band divorcing one another. By 1977, most bands would have said F-it, and gone their separate ways. Not this band! I'll never say Fleetwood Mac was the greatest band ever (neither would they), but they sure seem to be the most resilient.
