Default Is For What It's Worth a single?

Sorry if this was already posted, I just noticed this link on Janis Joplin's fb page that says FWIW is the new single, doesn't look very official though:

Unfortunately this song will go down in history as a virtually unplayed second single - just like "Two Kinds of Love", "Blue Denim" and "Skies the Limit. So sad.

Thats why I loved experiencing TISL in its day - not only were 3 singles released, all charted in some way or another in Billboard. Too bad it wont happen this time.

Hate to be negative but the whole IYD experience (once the tour is complete) will be over far too soon.

I hate to say it, but it's looking that way. The singel is not even showing up on any airplay charts at all. Hasn't it been out for like three weeks now? And IYD is about to fall off the Billboard top 200, as well.

Hopefully they will release Annabel Lee as a last ditch effort to save the album. Oh yeah, and also PROMOTE IT too.

This is what happens when you wait almost 10 years (i.e., SYW) to release any new music even when it's a great CD.

I agree, how boring! 'Moonlight' would of been my pick. The record company is nuts!

I don't believe FWIW was necessarily a bad choice. It's a great song and potentially could have had legs off the back of "Landslide's" popularity. But as Bandon pointed out, it does appear Reprise, and Stevie for that matter, are not promoting it. A collage video could have simply been compiled from the documentary footage ala "Cheaper Than Free" style, to have some presence on the world wide web. TV appearance's could have been booked to perform the FWIW, a song in which she could successfully deliver live easily on national TV compared to "Secret Love". But alas, It feels as if any single Reprise released from IYD at this point would be a hard sell. Her best chance was with the 1st single, and they chose to go with the dusted off, never recorded, old song nostalgia route, complete with a teaser story that Stevie could coyly discourse about whom it could possibly be written about to the press.

Fans need to accept the fact that Stevie's hit single days are long behind her. I'm not saying she could never have a fluke hit song, but the odds are stacked against her, esp. if her record company is not strongly pushing the song to radio. And I bet they are not willing to spend the money on that gamble at this stage in Stevie's career, when they have younger, more bankable rising stars to spend that scarce marketing $$ behind. In Your Dreams, Moonlight & Annabel Lee all would have been sure fire hits back in Stevie's heyday, but sadly radio & even VH1 now turn their nose at new material from Stevie, choosing instead to almost exclusively only play her classic catalog. I would happily eat my words, if Stevie landed a new hit song...but I've stopped worrying & hoping for it, since around 2003.

what IS a single? for me, it actually has to be released and packaged as such (if even on iTunes)--not just sent to dj's for radio play. Otherwise, what makes it a single?

So if FWIW is about "the best summer of her life" touring with Tom Petty- then who is the "forbidden" and "outrageous" man in the song that she wants to leave his girlfriend and pack up his stuff?

I have yet to hear "Secret Love" get played. At this point I don't think she'll break through with anything other than a rocker. I guess they'll opt for "Ghosts Are Gone", but I still think an edited version of "Wide Sargasso Sea" would be wiser. Besides, given her new addiction to pantomiming song lyrics on the concert stage, I look forward to her inspired interpretation of "burned-his-house-down" during the live performance of the song. (Strikes invisible match on platform boot, tosses it at invisible silken drapes in invisible cream-colored ivory and soft-yellow house, covers entire head with shawl, stops drops & rolls with Sharon.)

And as far as I'm concerned, FWIW is no "Landslide". It's half a great song (only the verses).
