I agree with you Nico about that second article and John's political feelings and views toward the end of his life.I have one update for now.Everyone have a safe, enjoyable and great weekend and 4th of July this Monday.
Clash Music June 30, 2011 Yoko Ono has spoken about her experiences as an activist and how art can break through barriers. Yoko Ono is an unlikely icon. Vilified by Beatles fans, her avant garde leanings were ridiculed for decades. Yet the past few years have seen the Japanese artist earn renewed acclaim for both her visual art and her music.A renowned activist, the singer mourned the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's death with a series of special events last December. http://www.clashmusic.com/news/yoko-ono-talks-activism http://www.thenewyooxer.yoox.com/eng...php/post/8374/ Last edited by msLinds; 07-01-2011 at 11:59 AM.. |

John Lennon ‘Republican’ rumors untrue, says press aide
July 1st 2011 You may have heard stories last week about John Lennon being a ‘closet Republican’ and a big fan of Ronald Reagan, despite the liberal views expressed in his songs. Well, not so much.John’s former publicist, Elliot Mintz is trashing these claims, suggesting the man who made them – Lennon’s former assistant, Fred Seaman has a somewhat ‘unique’ view of the facts. http://www.hotmommagossip.com/2011/0...ys-press-aide/ Abbey Road Studios at 80 (photos) July 1, 2011 LONDON--For 80 years, Abbey Road Studios has been one of the most important places in the music business. But of course it is best known for the work done there by a group of four young men from Liverpool, England: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. The Beatles.Today, it is still very much a working studio, and artists from all over the world come to record and mix there. http://news.cnet.com/2300-13772_3-10...html?tag=mncol David and Victoria Beckham Baby Name: Beckhams May Choose Beatles Inspired Name July 1s, 2011 David and Victoria Beckham will soon welcome their baby daughter into the world… but what will the celeb couple name their little girl ? While there’s been buzz about Victoria Beckham’s baby name ideas in the past, the latest news is that David and Victoria Beckham may choose a Beatles-inspired name.Victoria Beckham tweeted yesterday: “David has been downloading music for our baby! Rockabye baby lullaby renditions, so cool! Love The Beatles album!!! X VB (sic)”One source squeals that David and Victoria may go with Jude, as in “Hey, Jude,” by the Beatles. http://blogs.babble.com/famecrawler/...inspired-name/ |

The Nation
June 29, 2011 John Lennon was not a closet Republican A guy named Fred Seaman is all over the conservative blogs today for a new documentary in which he claims that John Lennon was “a closet Republican” at the time he was shot. This seems unlikely.First of all, who is Fred Seaman? He’d been a personal assistant to John and Yoko at the Dakota in the late seventies, but he’s also a convicted criminal. He was found guilty of stealing John Lennon’s personal belongings, including his diaries, after Lennon had been killed. He was sentenced to five years probation. You might say that weakens his credibility. What exactly were Lennon’s political views at the end of 1980? Late that November, Lennon spoke out on behalf of striking workers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. (The story is told in my book Come Together: John Lennon in His Time.) The strike was against Japan Foods Corporation, a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational Kikkoman, best known for its soy sauce. The US workers, primarily Japanese, were members of the Teamsters. In LA and San Francisco, they went on strike for higher wages. The shop steward of the LA local, Shinya Ono, persuaded John and Yoko to make a public statement addressed to the striking workers: http://www.thenation.com/blog/161751...set-republican Julian Lennon signs to Conehead June 3, 2011 Graham Stokes' Conehead label is very proud to announce a major partnership with Julian Lennon for the release of his new album 'Everything Changes'. This, his first album since 1998, is slated for release on September 26th with the single 'Lookin' 4 Luv' preceding it by 2 weeks on September 12, 2011. http://www.music-news.com/shownews.a...&nItemID=42311 |

The Wall Street Journal July 6, 2011 Beatles Great Paul McCartney Plunges Into Crowd Sourcing Four decades after Paul McCartney crooned “send me a postcard, drop me a line,” the British rock icon is inviting fans to send him original works of art, in a bid to cultivate new ways to interact with audiences. In a contest set to begin Wednesday and created by tech start-up Talenthouse, the promotion calls for competitors to design a work inspired by McCartney’s music (any of it, not necessarily “When I’m Sixty Four”). The winner will receive $1,000, merchandise and a high-end design software package. Idea Generation, a London art gallery, will display the winning work of art, and sponsor Saatchi & Saatchi will feature the artwork of 10 runners-up on its online gallery. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/...ogle_news_blog The Curvature Jully 6, 2011 What A Bastard The World Is: The Feminist Politics of Yoko Ono’s Personal Song When I began listening to Yoko Ono’s music and learned that it wasn’t at all what I’d been led to believe, one of the first songs I was strongly drawn to was a track from the second side of her landmark 1973 double album Approximately Infinite Universe, titled What A Bastard The World Is. Her later 1973 album Feeling The Space would contain so many songs explicitly dealing with the lives and rights of women — from Woman Power to Men, Men, Men, from Angry Young Woman to Yellow Girl, from She Hits Back to Woman of Salem — that it is regularly referred to as a feminist concept album. http://thecurvature.com/2011/07/06/w...personal-song/ ‘My Hometown’ written by Yoko Ono & directed by Jerry Levitan & Terry Tomkins, opens Without Borders Film Festival in Spoleto July 4, 2011 The Without Borders Film Festival in Umbria kicks off its fourth season on Friday with the world premiere of an animated film written and narrated by Yoko Ono. John Lennon/Bob Dylan owned and played Gibson guitar expected to bring $200,000+ in Heritage Auction
BigNews.Biz - July 07, 2011 - DALLAS, TX – A 1967 Gibson J-160E Sunburst acoustic-electric guitar bought by John Lennon and later gifted by Lennon to Bob Dylan is expected to bring $200,000+ as the undisputed centerpiece of Heritage Auctions July 29 Signature® Music & Entertainment Auction. Lennon played and wrote songs on this beautiful Gibson during the period of the famous Beatles retreat with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India, possibly even taking this guitar with him on the journey – one of the most tumultuous and creative periods in the band’s history, which resulted in 1968’s The White Album, one of the greatest albums ever made. Lennon later gave to Bob Dylan, who wrote, recorded and toured with the guitar himself. http://bignews.biz/?id=1061757&keys=...uitar-Heritage |

Gibson.com July 8, 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Builds Better Beatles Exhibit The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, has put together “the most comprehensive, artifact-driven Beatles exhibit in the world,” according to what Jim Henke, vice president of exhibitions, told Billboard.com.Henke said that the organization has developed relationships with George Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and Ringo Starr’s representatives to bring more original items into the museum. He said the Rock Hall already had a good relationship with Yoko Ono, who ensured John Lennon was well-represented. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyl...les-0708-2011/ iamrogue.com July 8, 2011 IAR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Producer Vivek Tiwary talks 'The Fifth Beatle Paul McCartney once said, "If anyone was The Fifth Beatle, it was Brian."He was referring to Brian Epstein, the legendary manager of The Beatles. Epstein has been credited with their discovery as well as their success.Broadway Theatre Producer Vivek Tiwary has secured $25 million in financing for his much-anticipated and long-awaited foray into film entitled THE FIFTH BEATLE. A story ripe to be told, the film will be centered on the Fab Four’s manager, a closeted homosexual in the days when being so was illegal in the UK.*The film will focus on how Epstein suffered with his outsider status and dealt with his pain all while The Beatles became world famous. http://www.iamrogue.com/news/intervi...th-beatle.html Spinner.com July 7, 2011 Ringo Starr Celebrates Birthday With 'Peace and Love Ringo Starr has asked fans to spread "peace and love" in honour of his turning 71 on Thursday, July 7. The Colonel :Roosevelt High School , Ken Ohio Monday, April 04, 2011 With his new project “Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger”, Sean Lennon is starting to become famous for more than just being John Lennon’s son. He’s finding his own style, and though critics say this new album still sounds like the Beatles it’s merely because he inherited his father’s voice. Though the lyrics are somewhat mystical and thought provoking, --like the Beatles-- the instrumentation and the overall sound of the music is entirely different. “Acoustic Sessions” has certain elements of indie music but it’s also quite experimental http://my.hsj.org/Schools/Newspaper/...20/GOASTT.aspx Last edited by msLinds; 07-10-2011 at 05:54 PM.. |

Scoop today.com July 10, 2011 Beatles reunion at the 2012 London Olympics ? Imagine this for a second: You decide to go to the 2012 London Olympics, and not only do you get to see an amazing international sporting event, but you get to see the closest possible thing to a Beatles reunion, too. That's what organizers of the London event are reportedly hoping for, anyway. The remaining living members of the Fab Four -- Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr -- have reportedly been approached to sing at the games next summer, according to*British press. As for the late John Lennon and George Harrison, they could be represented by someone from their families. http://scoop.today.com/_news/2011/07...pics?GT1=43001 International Business Times July 7, 2011 News of The World: One of the Beatles Favorite Papers Ironic that Ringo Starr’s birthday falls on the same day that Rupert Murdoch decided to close down publication of the “News of the World” tabloid newspaper. The Beatles were inveterate readers of the tabloids, especially the News of the World and others, and often gleaned inspiration from them for their songs. Tabloids have a special place in British society and their circulation have always exceeded that of the more serious, mainstream publications. They are an integral part of English society (at least among the working class). However, the News of the World has a special place in Beatles lore because the tabloid’s name actually appears in the lyrics of one of their songs: Polythene Pam, which was on the Abbey Road album. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/1761...il-beatles.htm Have a Beatles name?
