Default So....If They're Still Working On The New Album....

....I would think the March 1st date is pretty much out the window!

(Yeah, it's still do-able.......but I doubt it!)

JEEEZ, how long do you think it takes to mix & master an album? Conceivably, it can be done in less that two weeks. (a little less than a day per song)

Remember, The Beatles first album was recorded (14 songs) in ONE DAY!!
So, anything longer than that is just disgusting vanity.

I'm speculating of course, but I believe that Stevie and or Reprise wanted her & Lindsey to record something of a duet at the last minute to serve as a highlight and for marketing the album to starving FM fans - and it's a win/win for Lindsey as well, cause he will get a bit of exposure before his solo record drops a few months later.

So we know Dave went in on 11/22 to produce and recorded probably the last session to add Lindsey's harmonies/vocals and guitar atop a song that had probably already basically been recorded. And as far as the rest of the record it was reported they began mixing around the 1st week in November.

I bet the record is completely mixed and ready for mastering before the Holidays, and we will get an album announcement shortly after the new year with a teaser song released shortly after.

I do have hope that we will see this record released no later than mid-March, and very possibly on the proposed release date of March 1st.(fingers crossed)

I think March 1 is still doable as long as the album is being finished as we speak. If there is still **** left to do, then they are running out of time! And I was thinking it was strange that there has been NO promotion for it. But on second thought, I remembered Stevie Nicks is not Lady Gaga/Taylor Swift/Justin Bieber/a current artist who has a bazillion fans creaming their panties over everything they do. Today's current artists have the luxury of having people (usually young people) sitting around just waiting for their new albums, so they announce and promote **** as early as they can to get the word out there and spread around to build up the anticipation. However, Stevie is beloved by many, but most people have jobs and they aren't laying on the floor smoking weed waiting for the new Stevie Nicks album, as she once stated. Therefore, early promotion may spark interest, but if the promotion is too early, then people will get too caught up in their life to remember to go buy the album. Ergo, people need to start hearing about the album as close to the release date as possible.

I definitely agree. Maybe I'm just a complete simpleton, but I just can't fathom what in the hell Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac actually accomplish in the studio to warrant spending 12-18 months of recording for one album. I mean, what could possibly take that long? Especially Stevie... she typically brings in songs with lyrics that are already written and they even have rudimentary beats which usually end up pretty close to the finished product. What exactly is the 12-18 months spent doing, then?

For what it's worth, I'll bet money Fannymac is right, though. If they're still tinkering and laying down new material, the odds of this album being in our hands in 3.5 months are pretty remote. Stevie just works very slowly and flakily .

Nah...Lennon WROTE, RECORDED & RELEASED "Instant Karma" in 36 hours...yep, 36 hours from the first inspiration for the song to the 45's being shipped.

People, it CAN be done...it's just whether the artist's vanity is to the point of making it happen.

It can be done, but this is Stevie Nicks we are talking about. When was the last time Stevie wrote, recorded and released an album iun 36 hrs? Or even a month?

She has dawdled in getting her last several albums out, and has taken many years in between to neglect to release anything. I feel that she is very concerned that they won't sell, and she tinkers and dallies in an effort to make radio-friendly hits. It costs her big to do an album and she wants maximum benefit, I guess. In the meantime, the public forgets who she is. IMO this is likely her last solo album, and I have some concerns about her close collaboration with Dave Stewart in songwriting. She may have done that with the same motive she had for working with Sheryl on TISL, which is to maximize hit song potential. Her fixation on doing cover songs in her recent live performances shows that she may lack confidence in her own talents. It's almost as if she thinks "well, my last albums were not great sellers so maybe if I do fewer of my own songs I'll be better off."
For someone like Stevie who has so much music in the vault and still has great writing talent (see some of the songs on SYW), I think it would be better to end her solo career with a set of her own personally meaningful songs of which she can be proud, some reworked versions of unreleased demos together with newly written reflective pieces, rather than a collaboration with someone else to try to grab a few more sales.
Just an opinion. To me, Stevie's solo career has been a bit of a disappointment in that her unique songwriting and vocal talents have tended to be submerged under a cloud of shaky collaborations, grasps at hit status, and random production quality. I wish she had stayed true to her roots and kept putting out her own distinctive voice rather than floundering around trying to be a megastar or losing her confidence and delaying new releases.
That said, I will be the first to get the new album and, as always, will search it for some real Stevie stuff.

I have a friend in the music business. His duo's album is coming out Feb 8th. Final product is due in on Dec 15th.

Default Career Moves

Well many recording artists only release new music every 2-3 years, especially the superstars. And remember, you are only a superstar IF you sell albums and have hit songs. So the fact that she writes some songs to be radio-friendly is not a surprise. It is still a business and record companies (especially back in her heyday) still controlled the business.

Yes, it's been too long since TISL, but she has said that she had been discouraged by the business to record much. She's old-school, and that ain't the business any longer. I'm shocked she even let Dave talk her into doing a new CD, and that she's basically allowed comments and images to be posted online and Tweeted! That's a BIG step for her!

As far as recoding now is concerned, it can be done rather quickly, and often music is tweaked once the studio chiefs here it and pass along notes. Regardless of her status, she still is not the only one that calls all the shots when it comes to releasing and marketing her music. She's still under contract, which means WB has a say in the process, and the final release date.

Interesting... I'm not sure I like the finite sound of that name, though

I love that! It sounds arty. And haunting. There is an air of finality about it, like, "There is nothing left of you and me." But at the same time it's like a new beginning, like, "I am no longer haunted by the ghosts of the past." If the past is any indication, the title of the album will definitely reflect the overall mood of the album, so I think this is a good sign!

You hit the nail on the head here. I think Stevie has tried time after time to incorporate others into her music to help it sell, but it never works. Her best selling album to date is Bella Donna, which was all Stevie aside from Stop Draggin My Heart Around. I think if Stevie wanted another #1 record, she should do it all on her own. However, what I do like this time around is it seems the collaboration between Dave and Stevie this time is more lyrically Stevie, musically Dave. Stevie has never been the musical genius, it is her words that speak loudest. So I think as long as she is singing her words with some brilliant music, it will be good.

I don't know how I feel about this. When I heard the title of the song, I instantly loved it and couldn't help but think that it sounds like such an amazing song. However, as an album title? Idk about that. For one, it will be abbreviated TGAG. Secondly, it just seems more like a song title than a album title. But I do like the whole new chapter vibe to it. Like all the ghosts are gone and I am no longer haunted, this is also a new beginning. But of course, being Stevie Nicks, she may say the ghosts are gone, but they are never really always gone. They always come back every once in a while!
