Well, I'm lazy, and have a Blackberry, so unless I want a specific part to play, I just dump the whole song onto my BB and set it as the ringer.

But when I want a specific bit, I clip it using Movie Maker for videos and Audacity for mp3s.

Looks like the Mirage show is a great source for text alerts. I tried to get Stevie's little goat noise from Tusk when I was clipping out Lindsey's "shut yo mouf" bit for my alert, but it was too quiet.

I've made several but only currently use 2 different ringtones and only for specific people when they call.
One friend is Stand Back (intro), the other friend is Edge of 17 (guitar riff).

I prefer making my own original ringtones with GarageBand anyway.
