I'm sorry David, I didn't mean to sound snippy or anything! I had pep band practice for 4 hours that day (And the day after!) , and was feeling angry. I love clairinet, but not that much.

And thank you, although I strongly disagree! I am no where near as awesome as Stevie Nicks in any way!

I didn't rate Jeremy because it would be rude since he reads the forum, but I will say that I think he is one of the higher I.Q.s in the band's history. Stevie Nicks is easily the dumbest. But she's the biggest star, so there ya go.
Thanks David. This is a great thread!

Ok. I'll take a stab at this one. Just like another post, I'm rating solely based on having heard these members speak at various times. Those members left off my list are only because I haven't heard them speak, not because I don't think they have a high enough IQ to be rated!

1. Lindsey Buckingham
2. Rick Vito
3. John McVie
4. Mick Fleetwood
5. Christine McVie
6. Billy Burnette
7. Peter Green (honestly I think prior to the LSD he was probably one of the most intelligent members of the band ever)
8. Stevie Nicks (when she's not talking in circles)
9. Jeremy Spencer (based solely on his contributions to the Peter Green Story documentary I watched on Youtube this weekend, no offense meant, but the man seemed to talk in circles and didn't seem totally in touch with reality)

All the members of FM are intelligent and sensitive individuals in their own way. End of story.
I'm with OldTimer on this one. We discuss virtually everything else about this band and it's members. Why not this? It's just our own opinions. We could be spot on or ridiculously wrong. What does it matter?

I won't rank them by IQ. I don't believe in IQ. I think I have a genius-level IQ, and I know I am stupid.

But I do have a story that pertains.

A friend of mine--whose an expert in all the arts, and, thus, a passing admirer of Mac's masterpiece trilogy--said to me once (for reasons too complicated to get into):

"Lindsey is a genius. But Stevie is the smart one. [pause] Well, they're BOTH geniuses, but Stevie is the smart one."

Stevie's lyrics definitely aren't a sign of great intelligence tho!
I think Lindsey tries too hard to assert himself as 'highly intelligent'. Lindsey seems to take the simplest idea and explain it in a convoluted way, to me it takes someone far more intelligent to explain complex ideas in a simple way.I'm not saying he is unitelligent at all, just not the 'genuis' he wants to come across as.

I don't think you can rank people in order of I.Q., there are so many different types of intelligence, how do we decide which are the most valuable?

Linds and Stevie must get a lot of credit from making the most of their talent. Whatever their IQ, I guess both fulfilled their potential. I think both of them are pretty bright (Stevie aint no idiot) and made a fortune.

Not sure why an alcoholic like Danny Kirwan who wasted his talent rates number two on your IQ list. If being clever in your judgement is drinking/pissing your life away and relying on the state to support his addictions - I'm surprised.

well to be fair, IQ is about raw intellectual potential, not about the amount of money one makes or their poor choices. i know plenty of brilliant people who are wastes of space. i am occasionally one of them.

plus wasn't DK mentally ill?

^^ that's what I thought Carrie. Many great minds, people who could even be considered geniuses, have had tragic ends.

I can't comment about whether you are a brilliant person or not.........

I don't think raw intellectual potential is best expressed by sitting in a gutter in Covent Garden. I think the majority of intelligent people understand that drink and drugs aint that helpful.

In the UK, alcoholics are classed as mentally ill - you are right there.

So you don't think alcoholism that severe is a mental illness?
And wasn't Stevie a drug addict and alcoholic for many years?
There are many great artists that have descended into alcoholism or addiction in the past. I don't see how it's a sign that they have lower IQs given their work.

What a stupid thread, based on a stupid premise.

Rest assured you know nothing about what DK did or didn't do, or why. And FYI, his royalties cover his needs, not the state. What he certainly doesn't need is people who don't know the first thing about his situation, or apparently mental illness in general, casting their irrelevant judgement in public.
