I don't think she has anything against guitar solos at all. Indeed there was a lot of guitar on ITM. It was just something she was saying at the time. I believe a deliberate counter to some of Lindsey's SYW comments.

Yes. I think this was the case. In SYW, during the segment that addresses Christine's absence, he says something like "Christine is off in England and who knows what the heck she's doing..." It's brash but I sensed it was because he was pissed she wasn't around.

Lindsey and Christine forged a great partnership through the years and were able to nourish each other's strengths as well as temper one another's limitations...

And yet in her 1984 interview with Rolling Stone she talks about how much she loves the sound of a guitar...

Also consider the great guitar set pieces in "Hollywood"

Yeah, Lindsey was like she was in England doing "god knows what" or "god only knows" and combine that with how she had burned her bridges, I thought he was suggesting that she had become an axe murderer and was no longer welcome in the United States.

Actually, those clips on her website feeled me with longing, because aside from saying guitar solos made her absolutely sick and she was so relieved to be with Dan and his Englishman's sense of guitar playing, she also said that she's never that far away from FM and not a day goes by when she doesn't think of them (especially John and Mick) and how she could sense what John and Mick and, even to some extent, Lindsey was about to do on stage, because she was so in tune with them. She said it wasn't a premonition exactly, but it was something she couldn't describe and she she said it gave her that famous goose flesh.

As for Lindsey, when she was promoting ITM when asked why her songs sounded like FM at first she joked and said it was because she had written all the FM hits. Then she said it was because she thought they had all learned so much from Lindsey in the studio. And she said that Dan actually was a fan of Lindsey's.

Well, Lindsey's "guitar army" (circa '93) was absolutely his idea, just any additional accompaniment is now.

However, it *is* essential that he gets his 2-3 songs where he gets to exaggeratedly strum and make wild facial gestures- you know, to show that he's passionate and awesome and all that.

I don't understand why/how there would/could be "bad blood" between Christine and Lindsey. Why would there be? Personally I think a lot of people took some of Lindsey's comments about Christine out of context. It's easy to try to put words in people's mouths and misinterpret what they say and what they mean to say when there's only one side that you're able to listen to.

I don't think there was any serious bad blood between the two of them.

some of Lindsey's remarks about Christine about the time SYW came out I thought were less than gracious. If he was quoted correctly there was something about her songs not being "emotionally incisive" and not working too well live. He did mention testosterone more than was strictly necessary and that he had more freedom now which could imply that Christine was somehow holding him back. I don't think she ever held him back but she was the only member of the band who could and did stand up to him musically. I think they made a good team- he probably pushed her further than she wanted to go and she probably smoothed off some of his edges.

Mind you some of the things Ms McVie said were not particularly polite either - "maybe a tad too much guitar" "what I was hearing was Buckingham Nicks and not Fleetwood Mac" she also mentioned about not liking guitar solos. I don't think she actually said they make her sick, I can't think of the exact words but it was something like when she hears a guitar solo she's "out the door"

I doubt if they keep in touch much but their lives now are so very different. He's still a full time musician and she is pretty much retired.

I think a lot of people here are mistakenly interpreting Christine's comment about guitar. If she said that she hates guitar, she meant the power-chorded, near-metal assault that Lindsey makes on COME or MURROW. She isn't talking about all electric guitar. Virtually every recording she ever made & every concert she ever gave featured electric guitar playing. Surely you must see the difference, Luke?

Lindsey's 1993 guitar army was really a guitar ensemble. It was a masterly orchestration. He used the phrase "guitar army" because it sounds cool. But the numerous guitarists on his old tour all had very intricate parts to perform, each part meticulously arranged in advance in order to re-create as far as possible the effect of the album tracks. It was by no means just a cock-rocking assault on the senses that the phrase "guitar army" connotes.

I was looking for my clip. Question 10 was when she said she could feel the guys and sense what they were going to play next.

I have Question 9, but it won't open and I don't know which one that was.

But about guitar solos, I think she said something like they make her "absolutely" sick and the minute she hears them she wants to get up and walk out the room. I don't know how she described them whether she said "long" guitar solos or electric or what kind of guitar solos. I just know she said guitar solos.

When Lindsey was promoting UTS I think he said something like he talked to Chris once a year, which was actually more than I thought he did. I don't think he even said he talked to John at all.

I was just thinking of other comments I found interesting. He mentioned that he and Stevie might have stayed together longer and worked out their problems, if not for Christine's influence. He also said that Chris made Stevie more feminine and left to her own devices, Stevie's music is more masculine.
This made me laugh, because I would say that Stevie's solo music can be harder than her Mac music, but it has more to do with Lindsey than it does with Christine.

But Lindsey made these comments in 1997 a time when Lindsey was saying he was closer to Christine because he understood her need to leave as a "survival move" when all the other band members didn't understand.

Now for IMT, Chris also made me laugh when she said that the words to Tusk made no sense and who even knew what they meant -- which they don't make sense, but she knew that 25 years ago. And she repeated a famous sentiment that all of the band's guitar players go crazy. But then the interviewer asked her about Lindsey in particular and said, "but he's ok isn't he?" And she said that he was fine. So, when given the chance, she didn't include Lindsey amongst the insane guitar players she's known. Michele

They were two different interviews. Here's the "left to her own devices" one from Guitar World Acoustic. I'll have to find the other one about him and Stevie maybe having worked out their differences. Many times, I think Lindsey is bringing the estrogen to FM songs. Michele

That's true! I think Mick would say that his playing here is probably the best he's ever done. To some degree, Stevie, left to her own devices—not necessarily on her solo albums, but in the context of Fleetwood Mac—is, if not a more masculine presence, then certainly a more aggressive presence than when she's tempered by what Christine would bring to her songs. But I think the biggest difference has been for John, who's really playing great stuff here. Obviously, Stevie and I pushed each other's buttons over the years, and although we functioned in the band well enough, it wasn't always as comfortable as it could have been. There was always this tension.

Clip number 13 she says "Dan is one of those guitar players who loathe guitar solos and so do I"

"Any hint of (brief impersonation of guitar solo) and I'm out the door".

Thanks. This should mean that mine is called Q13 and now I may be able to recover and watch it.
